it depends what you want your car to do. i am fitting a multi point full weld in cage in mine. it's going to be raced and on track as often as possible. a weld in cage and full seam welding will keep the shell 'alive' for as long as possible. after the hours i have put into my shell already i want it to last as long as possible.

a 6point bolt in cage will do the safety job and but will not save a shell unless it is substantially added to.

got the rollcentre one, you'll need to get ordering now as there was a wait of 6 weeks when i ordered mine. you might want to do some serious weight saving on the car as it weighs a few pounds. lets just say your postman won't thank you for ordering it.

hopefully i'll complete the ball breaking job of getting the thing installed in the holidays i've got booked next week. ohh refer to the msa blue book for details on how it should be installed from a competition perspective.

Craig, ask 'dub nutta' about his cage, I think he used the same Roll Centre kit as pol8 and Mad20v, you'll find it's a BIG job to fit, and you need it stripped to a bare shell ideally. And be poo hot with a welder.

When we were at the 'ring , I went into ring-racing.de, they sell/fit Wiechers bolt in cages which are popular with the locals.

For a 6 point bolt in full cage (mk2) with X rear cross, a lateral support behind the seats and door bars they quoted me 737 euros (566) I would then have to get the thing bought back from Germany. As most other cages, 4-6 weeks waiting list.

I have contacted AAT and they have quoted me 625 delivered to UK.

Saw in TRC and Tub's post that Safety Devices are back btw, they have moved production to Poland.

If you're thinking of racing, check the regs of the series before you buy a cage. Some of the 'low cost' (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!) series dont allow weld-in or multipointing.

The Sparco cage goes in front of the dash and looks better made than the others.

I took my Ibiza to Custom Cages, had a multi-point weld in fitted.. I sprayed it myself. Cost's around 1200 fitted, I think 4-600 of that is fitting costs. Very good job though.

I hope they jigged the car before they welded your cage in

On the bolt-in option, I'd make the brackets a bit wider than that, as it keeps the car eligible for more forms of motorsport. There are minimum sizes for base plates on rally cars, and you never know who's going to buy your car in the future, so it helps to keep it suitable for a wider market.

What do you guys think about Coustom cages??

    They supply the VW cup?

I saw in TRC that the scricco's cage was modded over the standard??

just a thought - i think the new shell that keith is looking at getting already has a cage - so the one from his red race car may well be up for sale.

You'd need to ask if he is selling as i don't know, but since he was using it for circuit racing it will be MSA approved - i think it's a 6 point bolt in with extra drivers door bar - always looked like a decent bit of kit to me! I know he's raising funds to get the new car on the track so he may well be interested in selling, that way you save a few quid (and get a decent bit of kit with less than a season's use) and he gets some more money towards the new car!
