    Got both sets of alloys.

15's and 17's. Which do you think would be best for acceleration?

Yes, 15's are better for acceleration, but its 195 as opposed to 205 for the 17's, and the 17's have better tyres on them.

    So, which ones?

17's, wider, better tyres and less wheel spin :)

what he said..... :p dunno what sort of pressures to use though, drag racers use quite low pressure but they have wrinklewalls so need the tyre to flex a huge amount. I spose you'll need to experiment a bit. Hard rear dampers might controll some weight transfer I guess.

why not just use the tyre you use normally

that way when your driving it on the road you know how quick it is

I'd go with the 15s. The 50 profile will let you run a lower pressure on the front. The guys I know reckon 20psi is best for the front.

I run 15/45s at normal pressures and get a lot of wheelspin. Still managed a 14.4@107.4 on my first attempt.

I'd suggest you try a couple of runs starting in 2nd gear. Your car's got more than enough low down torque to pull away smoothly. It'll cut down on wheelspin and save you a gearchange. I've been practising this at traffic lights and it works for me.

the 15's should me noticeably quicker - and offer better traction off the line

make sure to warm them up a little first ;) (but stay out of the water trough)

What's the spec of your's Colin? Which differential have you got? I reckon 13's are achievable in a 20VT MK2 [8D]

I'd go for the 17's Rich. Eagle F1's are a great tyre!

anyone who thinks eagle f1's are a better tyre in the dry than the yoko's is on drugs......

weigh them - i would expect the 15's to weigh less, and the 15's have a much larger sidewall - which is a very good thing on the 1/4

i think you'd be mad to run the 17's myself...

290bhp/285ft.lb Audi TT lump with Golf 4 Gti g'box and standard diff. I reckon it'll do 13s. I only had the car for a week when I last went (to Crail) and couldn't control the wheelspin in 1st and 2nd so I think the 'problem' is me not the car

Also, I didn't have a working tacho so was probably changing up too early (sometimes blows a coil pack when it hits the limiter so I tend to keep clear of it). Now have a beeper set @ 6000 (max power is 5900).

Depending on the weather will get along to Crail in November and have another go ;)
