Was having a scout around for insurance quotes last night online - just quick quotes for now rather than ringing round etc but just wondered if anyone would mind disclosing what they pay for a ABF'd mk2 Golf?

I was actually reasonably surprised to be getting quotes around the 300-400 mark (23 with 5 years NCB) on both an ABF'd car and 8v (both modified).

Interestingly the price dropped around 150-200 adding my step father on and hilariously also dropped when adding my gf on who's a provisional driver! It also dropped 80 when it wasn't kept in a garage and went up 50 if it had an alarm fitted?!

Anyway who are you insured with and and did they bat much of an eye lid with the engine swap? I assume engine conversions are just put into different bhp power bands?

    Cheers

HIC insure mine. Bizarrely it was cheaper to insure than a mk2 8v!?!

They really didn't bat an eyelid at that or any of the other mods I have...or when I had an accident last year on another policy.

Came in about 300 as I recall...

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it is quite bizarre. In fairness getting quotes on the ABF'd Ibiza (which was the donor) with the same modifications as the Golf was around 30 cheaper. Quotes are a little hypothetical at the moment as the online system won't recognise the engine swap however getting quotes on both cars individually comes out at around the same price so figure an average from both should give a reasonable idea.

Never really done online before as my cars have always been a bit specialised but it really enables you to see what makes a difference. Still can't get over the alarmed car being more and adding my GF as a provisional driver dropping the price...

    Such a minefield.

It depends how modified the abf is. Mine is fully modified including things like rear head rests, electric wing mirrors, bbs wheels etc... Mine is 500 and have agreed value of 3500 as I had to send proof of the work and costs carried out on my mk2 abf. I am with Adrian Flux, seem ok. Also depends what your postcode is, they slap the price up depending where you live.

Mine is insured with Adrian Flux, loads of mods, social domestic and pleasure, 3pft, 23 with 5 years NCB on another car so nothing on the Mk2, came in around 650 I think.
