rite, i was just wondering what the main difference between carbs and bodies is, is a set of tb's basically just a set of carbs but the tb's use injectors for the fuel rather than jets? feel free to shoot me down, but i would like to know the basics of each, i know Tbs make a car more tuneable, but why is this? cheers, tim
Yes. The tuneability (is that a word?) comes from the injection system, not actually the tb's themselves. Using a decent EFI controller allows you to finely adjust the fuelling (and ignition) at many points throughout the operating range of the engine compared to various inputs. It is actually possible to tune carbs pretty closely as well. Carbs have a variety of mechanisms to alter fuelling under different conditions, the difference being these are all mechanical controls and can be more time consuming to tweak. The other problem is that tuners who know their carbs inside out are becoming few and far between.
ok mate cheers, you have recently upgraded your injection system?! i guess its a good job i know a mechanic with a RR who in in to his classic rallying! mk1 and mk2 escorts are always on his rollers, i guess he is the man to go and see! ive heard (read) about ppl using old bike carbs as Itb's? is that basically using the carb for the air control (not the fuel) but still using injectorsfor the fuel?! cheers, tim
check out practical perfomance car this month, and read dave walkers article at the back, it about carbs and tbs taught me a thing or two
