A Mint Mk2 valver especially with low mileage now commands more money than a Mk4 GTI, let alone a Mk3........and so they should as they're rarer......and so much more desirable;) ;)

Thats not really that far out on price. If it was mine I'd probably sort the leccy window and get the rusty areas repaired. I'd have thought that would see you 1700-1800 if its as described.

The problem is the internet. Everyone sees a picture and seems to instantly know what somethings worth without having seen it in the metal, or even any detailed pictures. Just because fat bloke down the pub has paid a couple of hundred quid for a mint oak green valver it doesn't mean you'll get one for a similar price.

Blues and twos do you fancy a s*** for my 3door 8v 91 gti.......baby on the way so five door a bonus;) pm me if you fancy it????

Yeah, you get what you pay for don't you. The couple of hundred quid valver is more than likely ready for head gasket work and other associated and expensive work. On the other hand, a lower mileage Golf with history and bills has more than likely had the expensive work done.

Is this ebay where your not allowed to say the word SWAP or did you put 'fancy a S-hit for my 3door...'

The word paws (mirror-image of the word) is a dirty word. You cannot say it anywhere now because E-bay says so! Did you not know this? No-one may ever paws anything ever again. It must all be sold on E-bay.

Not necessarily. A low mileage golf with history is just a low mileage golf tbh. It doesnt mean its had all the expensive work done to it. It means it's had work done.
Surely on the whole theyre all roughly the same, with worn/tired parts failing at near enough the same time accross the board, no?
And to your equation... I got 4k in receipts with my 500 Valver. Does that mean i can put it up for sale for 2250?

    That is so true.

Nowt wrong with the colour ;) :)
With a good amount of elbow grease and then pics taken in flattering light you can get a good old glossy shine on white. A bottle of bumper stuff is only a few quid, doesn't take too much hard work and makes a huge amount of difference to your pics - grey bumpers really are horrible....

Also I think it's worthwhile having a go at fixing little faults. Surely it should all make it a bit more appealing to a prospective buyer.

Not for a MK2, i don't think they look right as a 5 door (not the GTI anyway)
I got a 3 door 16v MK2 for 800 a bit back, to see what i got have a look at the thread below.

It needed a few jobs done but nothing too bad, and it came with a history file with approx 4000 spent on the car.

I have a 5 door GTI But its my lard ar5e MK3 16v (which i also paid 800 for with full history) but our lass drives that one as i don't like driving it anymore.

This is my opinion though and i know lots of people like the 5 door, but they are not for me.

I did say more than likely. Just from experiences I've had.

You should have a look at the dealer in birmingham. He has a website and specialises in the mk2 GTI. He is asking over 3000 for some of the cars!! Amazing!
A car is worth what someone is willing to pay!
    In may2003 sold my red mk2 gti16v 105000 5door for 2750
In Aug 2003 bought current car Royal blue Mk2 gti8v 76000 miles with full leather for 1750

Yeah I have seen his cars and they all look very nice, low owners and good history. Mine isn't as nice as those cars unfortunately (but still not bad!)
