Hello all. I need some help, I've just bought a 1989 MK1 Golf GTI cabrio and am looking for some new alloys to go on it. its currently got standard suspension and shocks and i wanted some advice on the sizes of wheels i can realistically fit on it, i was looking at 17s? If anyone has any suggestions or advice i'd like to hear from you. cheers. Edited by: Aaron Page
17s on a mk1 cab will be utterly awful to drive. Stick with 15"s. Just right for a mk1. Standard fit was 13" remember! Cheers, Drew.
17" on a cab do fit... even if it's lowered. See... ...admittedly the arches had to be rolled. The tyres only caught fully lock, or if cornering hard on bumpy surfaces. Yes the ride was a bit harsh, but the lowered Koni's didn't help either!
Makes those disc brakes look a bit pokey. Impressive! But was there daylight showing through the inner wings? Cheers, Drew.
mmmmmmmm I bought a cabrio for the wife and she wants it back 'original' its lowered with 17" wheels. I've also got a set of lowering springs... What wheels you got on yours then? Nobby
they will fit but even lowered they look high . i know a guy from a local truck dealer with 17's on his cabby and he wants shot of them as the ride is awfull
i got 17s on my cabby and its lowered but its a bit of a rough ride. but in its defence it can look real smart
Aaron Page eh? From Lufbra? Good choice of car mate! All the best, would be good to meet up and compare motors, my Mk1 is virtually perfect now! o p.s. 17's will fit but the arches will need serious work and you can't lower the car too much
