We ordered a new pump and the plug type is different. I was going to send it back but they all seem to be the same. The new has this socket.

The original has a square plug with larger offset pins. What is the new plug I need? Any links would be helpful

What car is the pump for. That looks exactly like the fitting on my Passats rear electronic calipers.. Getting the correct plug with the notch in the correct place was a pain for me many years ago.

Looks like a mk4/mk5 era plug.

It's for a mk2. Having done some searching it does seem to be a generic VW 2 pin plug. What a nuisance.

yep even if you order from VW, thats what they'll sell you. the mk2 pump was replaced by the mk3 pump, then the mk4 type pump, then MK5. you'll also be told you need to buy the matching plug at the same time by the dealer at least (if he reads the ETKA notes that is)

and yeah, its MK4/5 type plug, If you shop around you can still find pumps with the original MK1/2 spade connector though. but TBH the modern one is better as its sealed so less chance of corrosion damage to the wiring

1J0973722 is what you need, similar to the ebay one but it has bigger terminals. junior/power timer plus wire seals if you're buying seperately rather than a wire tail. sort of thing that fits nice in the pocked form scrappy assuming your local is open...
