I've been looking round for something that fits the bill, for a tool I am convinced I saw on American Hotrod. I'm after a wire stripper tool that strips the wire mid-way down the length of the wire, rather than off the end of it like regular wire stripper do. Meaning you could splice a second wire to the stripped wire, without cutting and resoldering it. Or is it a case of knowing a technique using a normal tool?
I think it is literally a case of using the normal tool in the middle of the wire. Something like these will work http://www.polevolt.co.uk/acatalog/info_TT46.html
This is what we use in the RAF... Perfect for the jobs once you set them up for the cable size and insulation thickness...
I use these, if Im in a tight spot, a lighter works great too, melty melty push it back, http://www.idealindustries.co.uk/imgserver/ideal2008/idealproductimages/15000/15000/15076/picture15076.jpg
I bought a set of Mac strippers that can spread the insulation apart, to be honest if you use a scraper razor blade you can just do two round cuts into the wire 10mm apart and a straight cut down it and peel a section out.
