Hi! Ok! I took my carb (32/34 dmtl) off the flange to replace it as my carb was almost falling off and now the slow idle is slightly erratic. There is a wire which comes off the base of the carb which may have been connected to a black thickish wire coming from the loom. The carb is earthed to the rocker cover but i aint sure about this other wire. Anybody any ideas???? Mattie
Thats the base plate heater. It connects to a wire coming from the loom that also has connectors for the sender on the side of the cyl. head plus the connections on the front of the head water housing.
There is what looks like a rubber gasket (which is a flange 44 from VW but expensive) which connects the carb to the manifold. There are 4 screws holding the base of the carb on which u need to take off and then a couple of allen key bolts. To be honest only replace if it its ripped or idling crappy. I did poo my pants slightly but its easy to do when you get into it. Let us know how it goes.
lol, but the base plate heater thingy really doesnt do much as it was mainly for the pierburg carb! oh p.s i broke my engine!!! but have a much better low milage new one and whilst it was apart i ground off the hedgehog!! makes quite a bit differance!
