    Hi everyone,

I'm rebuilding a 9A block at the moment, which will eventually find its way into a MK1 floppy top.

I wanted to find out whats invloved in working the oil ports to increase flow etc....
Has anyone on here done this? whats invloved? how easy is it? and last but not least, if its difficult to do, would anyone be able to recommend me a person/company that would be capable?

    Thx peeps,

    Pricie

i dont see a point doing this, theres plenty good enough oil flow from the factory. also, unless I have my brain in back to front today I'm sure increasing the size of the holes will reduce oil pressure?

aye.... i thought that after i wrote it..... doh.

What i'm after doing is maximising the flow of oil so it returns to the sump as quick as poss.

I'm also looking to up the limiter when i get my throttle bodies, so i want to make sure i dont starve my head of oil at high revs.

If its a fairly easy task that i can undertake with a dremel, then i'll have a go.....

ah well the oil return galleries could be worked on without issues, but again I dont think there will be any problem with how it is stock, should be plenty oil pressure and the return is pretty big!

    I've also heard of this......

I imagine it works by making a smoother path for the oil to follow.......?

supposedly, but whats wrong with gravity, surely there is only somuch oil that can collect on the wall of the block before it starts falling back to the sump

Don't see the point in returning it quicker unless you are running an extremely low level, ..............which is bad.

The yanks use Rustoleum on the inside of their V8s, but not really for street cars - it just isn't needed. Pushrod engines maybe with smaller oilways back to the sump, but personally I'd rather just have oil there instead of paint.

...or just run thinner synthetic oil... it'll also tend to burn or leak more, but that shouldn't be a problem on a good rebuild.

I was planning to use a slightly thinner weight as it goes... so its good to hear someone apart from my mechanic suggesting it! lol

Hopefully that'll cut the mustard then. Its not going to be a race car by any stretch of the imagination, but if i'm doing a nut and bolt rebuild of everything including the engine, i dont want it to go ping after 6 months

    Cheers peeps,

    Rob
