I have let various people drive or borrow my mk2 golfs over the years - not least because it means I don't have to store them and it's better for them to be used. Usually family members or friends I know will be OK with an old car.

Recently I've offered to lend one to a friend who is more used to 'modern' cars and not sure if it's a good idea. I forget that manual chokes and lack of power steering aren't really a thing for most people these days.

Interested to hear other people's opinion / experiences - would you let somebody else drive your old VW?

I’ll only be letting certain people drive this one when it’s done because of the power but otherwise, anyone has driven them before.

One rule, you bend it, you mend it.

For me it depends what they currently drive and how they drive. Plus do they have an appreciation for old cars. My mk2 is a left hooker so adds another dimension to the drving!

    Depends on the car.
The GTI , loads of mates drove it.
The daily E90 diesel, anyone who's insured
The M5, about 3 people in 7 years.

The only person I could 100% trust with anything of mine is my Mrs, she wouldn't drive my MK2s anyway so makes next to no difference.

Not overly precious about my daily despite it being the newest and most expensive car I've ever owned, Mrs drives it all the time and promised my stepson the keys when he turns 17

Pretty much agree with all of the above - I definitely care more about my mk2s than our 2017 'family' Tiguan even though they're all worth way less.

    Cheers :)
