found a cheap auto pas goof my jetta is auto and power steering would be good for the old lady..... worth the bother? or too much work? thanks
Don't know if the rack will fit, someone else will. I will say that my Mk1 auto had very heavy steering when I got it, but a combination of pumping the tyres up, highering the suspension and giving the front end a good check over and some use sorted it out. Not that heavy now, might be worth trying simple things first?
Due to the mounting lugs being designed to suit an undermounted subframe in the Mk2, Mk2 racks aren't suitable for adapting for the Mk1, since the Mk1 rack bolts laterally to the bulkhead. I've just written an FAQ which is in the Chassis section re: power steering options for a Mk1. Rule of thunb is if you're handy, it'll be cheap. If not, you'll end up shelling a fair few quid to do it.
