Been looking at bearings and final drives from the dealer, and noticed to my dismay that VW have nearly doubled prices on some of their parts.

02a input shaft shaft seal then 4 now 7.50(bear in mind it's really a 2 quid seal!)
    mk2 front wing was 50ish, now 100
    02a drive cup. was 45ish, now 100
020 Diff bolt kit was 45 now 61
02a diff bolt kit was 100 now 150
020 final drives were 199 now the best part of 340

I really don't get it myself. Thanks f**k there's quite a few other people supplying these parts even if you do have to look for them.

So, lets boycott the b'stards

Give me some part numbers. And, I'll check the Irish prices. At a guess they will be 50% more than the UK![8(]

They should discount part for older cars to show off how well they last.

I'll compare the prices in Holland. At a guess they'll be 3 - 4 x the UK prices. For instance: mk 3 auxillary drive belt with aircon, 5.50 at GSF, here at the motorfactors Euro 25.50[8(]

I'll be buying the bulk of my stuff on-line from now one, where as it was always nice to get dealer parts like bearings etc, I'll be buying named stuff from a dedicated supplier. Same stuff without the VAG logo.

It's just a shame that places like GSF that were helped along by the VW enthusiasts have branched out so much that they have dropped alot of the older lines including big bumper kits, trim and the smaller niggley plastic part which you could buy in bulk at the VW shows.

Do we think this is just the VW dealers taking the pish, or is it likely to apply to all genuine parts from other sources?

As far as i am aware its up to the dealer to decide on the mark up, as they are all supplied from the TPS.

Perhaps go direct to the TPS for the parts?

I'd heard 02A diff bolts had been made obsolete?

as andy has said you can go to TPS
in the past the parts guy in the dealer used to give you the part number and a price and send you down to TPS
they where ment to stop doing this about 3 years ago
and they now order it in

the parts guy i get will tell me if the local TPS has the parts

and i just wonder down and they now know my face so its not a problem

but the prices have gone up at TPS as well
the extange rate has a lot to do with it

i used to price the parts on vac cat in euros and use the extange rate to work out the price pounds
    and it was quit close
at that time the rate was 0.76 it is now about 0.83 plus you now have a rise in vat
and a lot of old vw part used to be discounted by as much a 15% probably not doing that now

some parts i got 3 years ago are now 32% more expensive witch all the above dose not add up too
like you i smell a rat

Doesn't sound like the end of the world if it's just the dealers. All my stuff comes from TPS anyway :)

Of course there's always the chance that TPS will up their prices a little, knowing they can get away with it as the dealers are charging more.

Regarding the prices; I've found those quoted on my copy of ETKA (in Euros, I think) aren't a million miles away from the cost from TPS.. so a good indicator if nothing else

Old thread but went to VW today to get an oil filter for ye'old VR6 and remember being suprised with it being cheaper than I thought and paying around 10 for it last time, so basically the same as what I priced up at ECP currently

But no came to 14.46 [:s] I was a bit shocked but I know the 2.5% VAT increase accounts for litreally 30p of the price increase but dammmmmmm they're expensive given the 7L of 10w/40 Semi oil I bought for it only cost 17

FYI, the VAT went up 4 of Jan, we all know then VW but the price of parts up by 3 or 5% 2nd week of Jan!!
    can't remember which %

Glad I ordered up a load of bits before VAT increase, or I would of been stung even further!

I blame the fuel increase mostly
