I've managed to put Audi S3 xenon's into my R32 look headlights on my golf...
All well and good, but I turn them on, they'll stay on for about 10 secs, then the fuses for them blow...
Can i put a larger ampage fuse in to solve the prob?

Crrently using a 10 amp fuse

Possibly need to do the MK1/2 uprated loom mod? You use a direct live feed to the headlights running off switched relays, theres a guide on Matey-Matey.

But does the MK3 already have the loom setup this way?

Not sure on the loom situation, but all sorted now, was just a case of a 20 amp use!

xenon's need a minimum of a 15A fuse because of the high start-up current required

To get the xenons going takes a lot of current but once they are running they use less current than conventional lights.

I give your headlight switch a week, before it blows.

The Mk3 headlight electrics are quite fragile, with both the headlight switch and the column stalk only just having thick enough wiring for stock headlights. Uprating the fuse is a stupid idiotic idea - it is there to protect the expensive parts of your electrics. If it is blowing then you have a problem.

I assume that you have fitted the high pressure washers and the suspension sensors for the automatic self levelling? Otherwise your car is illegal.

If you are serious about keeping the lights, you need to look at fitting relays to cope with the higher current drain.

Surely since its just a current spike thats knocking the fuse out he could just fit a capacator on the line so it drains that instead of pulling on the fuse? or am I being stupid?

Got them going off of 15A fuses now.

Half my car is illegal anyways, so not worried about ugly washer jets and self leveling lark.
I've consulted 3 people I know with xenons on their mk3 and they've had no probs what so ever and their running 25 and 30 amp fuses..

Did forget to mention Im using a wiring harness from an E46 bmw for the headlights..
From fuse box - relay - headlight..

That does make somewhat of a difference.

So if you are not feeding the headlights through the switches, how are you blowing fuses? Surely you should be blowing the inline fuse from battery to the relay?

That was when I used the OE loom.. I got the E46 a few days after and just replaced the OE wiring with the BMW..
Just slightly thicker with a relay..
