There are legal requirements to fitting Xenons.

You need to fit the self leveling system to the front and rear suspension.

You also need the high power lense washers that fit in the bumper.

    Have a read of

this document to see whats involved. (right click, save as)

What about all the recent featured Mk2's etc with Xenons fitted...pretty sure they didn't have the self-levelling/washers fitted?....

I used the whole loom from an audi TT and fabricated brackets to mount the sensors to the front and rear axles

If you really mean that you have just gone and bought some conventional halogen headlight bulbs with a bit of Xenon added, then you really need to read the Autocar product test.

The only bulbs that passed their high brightness tests were the Philips VisionPlus and Osram SilverStar. The Osram ones can be bought for 12 on e-bay.

Also bear in mind that bulbs that claim to have a colour temperature of 6000K are really bad in the fog (too much blue in the beam).

also blue tinted lamps give crap light output, worse than any standard clear halogen lamp.

I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, load of junk

For the Golf Rallyes you should be able to pick up a set of TT lamps and loom for around 200 - 250.
Make sure you get the ballast and starter pack -- cant remember if they are built into the lamp unit or not

In a nut shell the aim is to sw*p the parabolic reflector inside the rallye lamp with the TT one (think passat ones may also fit) You'll need to fabricate a bit to get the tt reflector to fit and a bit of cutting for the loom to plug into it from the back of the light.

Also wire the lights so that the dipped beam stays on when using full beam otherwise you'll have periods of darkness when switching from full beam to main as the xenon unit takes a second or 2 to power up.

With a mk4 youll just sw*p the whole unit ---- depends how fussy the mot man is as to whether he would pass it without power wash and sensors etc ;)

the Bosch system comes as 2 seperate units, ignighter and ballast, the hella system is better as it comes as 1 whole unit and so is smaller and easier to mount to the headlight
