    I finally bit the bullet and installed it after hearing the horror stories.

    So far it's worked ok but my god my PC takes years to boot up now!

    Anyone got any tips for deleting/uninstalling/blocking Microsoft crap I don't need to try and speed up the boot time?

    Also for some reason the annoying Creative start-up splash screen is back and I can't remember how I got rid of it last time.

    best way to block Microsoft crap is format c:\ I found it does the job quite well :lol:

    Not too sure what you mean by the creative splash screen but if its a program you should be able to turn it off from loading during startup using msconfig (start->run->msconfig)

    I upgraded as a piece of software I had wouldn't install on SP1.

    The creative splash screen comes up during loggin and doesn't appear under msconfig [:x]

    Click start -> run.

    Type regedit in the box.

    go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Microsoft, Windows, Current Version, Run.

    All the stuff that starts up is in there. If you need to get rid of some thing and it won't let you, boot into safe mode and try again.

    Some stuff also runs from the startup folder in the start menu, but not much these days.

    Also check the configuration of the creative software, they often include startup options.
