mk1 - like em but wouldn want it as daily driver. mk2 16v - classic example would be Recardo's (not goes its feckin Oak green but cos it looks minted - prefer the grey colour). mk3 - dont like it at all. Only the vr6 redeems itself here (mk1-mk3 like mechano sets to work on) mk4 - to chunky. have agree 150bhp diesel is crackin thoh. mk5 - undecided
1. mk1 2. mk2 16v 3. mk5 were there any other gtis? ... and to those who think a mk1 isn't very nice to drive - you really should get a grip. i guess you've only ever driven sheds with crappy gear linkages, badly adjusted brakes and 20 year old bushes. the mk1 gti DEFINES how a hot hatch should drive!!!
Isn't the title "your favourite Golf?" No mention of GTIs there! Mk1 - Started it all and Dad had mk1 GTi no.7 in the UK , then the last of the 1.8 GTIs. I love them, they just need real brakes. Mk2 - Had a mk2 8v in our family for 12 years and I had it for two. Quickish, NEVER broke down but a major thief target. I like them. Mk3 - A bit baggy, but I still miss my mk3 GTi 16V - Did everything pretty well and cost naff all to run. Mk4 - I actually don't like any of them much apart from the R32. Can't stand the 1.8T engine and all are too baggy. Wouldn't consider anything but the R. Mk5 - Only the GTi looks special but despite the daft price, they look pretty damn good. I'll probably be back when the R version comes out!
I was thinking ( perhaps a daft thing) VW were building their camper vans again recently so surely they could do the same with the golfs? Would be great to have a brand new Mk3
