...are they any good? Do you use them much? Or do you get all your bits from Halfords and GSF?

Random question, triggered 'cos I went to my local one yesterday for a few bits for the Mini only to find that they now shut at weekends (used to open 10-4 Sat, 10-1 Sun) because of lack of trade... I've been using them for fifteen years, I don't buy that much (I'm not much of a mechanic) but they always remember my Golf and ask how it's going...

SO I had to go to our local chav accessory shops, useless bunch of clueless morons [:x] "Charlie Browns", which was chock-full of nasty cheap-looking alloys and bass boxes, and when they didn't have what I was after, I had to try MotorWorld, which was even worse [xx(]

I used to have a Charlie Browns near me. As you say. It was cack.

My local one is good. They seem to have the little parts we need. One of the blokes that works there used to work in a garage that we took the Golf to get the suspension done so he always asks about it.

I use mine a fair bit for consumables, because they are friendly, show a genuine interest, and happily give me stuff at the trade price. Also, they allow you to smoke in the shop, which is rare.......

I always use my local factor for consumables, any bits I need in a
hurry etc. No sign of a lack of trade for them here, always busy, see
their vans on the road all the time etc. [:s]

I use a small local place called CAMS in Potters Bar, top lads,
workshops, MOTs, machine shop behind, stock tons of tools as well:clap:

And only 10 mins away is 'Murrays' VW and Audi specialists (local part
factors), based in Hatfield, always helpful for random VAG bits.

    GSF everytime for me.

I stupidly used ECP on the weekend (after years) who ripped me off and gave me shit service.
It seems some things never change. :)

I get parts for the VW's from GSF, i'm not far from the Heathrow branch so I can virtually guarantee they've got everything in stock. I use the local motor factors for all other stuff though, unless it's out of hours when I resort to Hellfrauds.

Camberly auto factors because i deal with them daily and they do me dirt cheap prices, gsf, or my main dealer. Or a lot of mail order stuff for the mk1 because i'm not in a hurry.

I use Central Auto Supplies quite a bit, because they are cheap and seem to stock everything, and if they haven't got it they can usually get it in the same day.

Been a few times I've gone to them after GSF haven't had the bit I'm after.
