    Near miss with the cops:

Driving along the M62 one night about 18 months ago, doing slightly under 120mph, mate in the passenger seat points at the car I'm rapidly appoaching and says 'Police'. I stamp on the anchors and just get it down to 70 in time. I probably wouldn't have noticed them until it was way too late!

    Near miss crashing:

One night driving up the M1, once again at around 120mph, and the car is making a horrible vibration, so I slow down and stop at the next services. Turns out one of the wheel bolts on the front offside wheel has sheered, and another 2 are only finger tight. I hate to think what would have happened if the wheel had let go at that speed!

Closest one I had was on the way to Glasgow from Newcastle via carlisle a couple of summers ago...In my then unmodded mk3

Came of the roundabout, heading towards hadrians wall... onto the dual carriage way...artic lorry in the slow lane...

I hold behind for a couple of seconds, check mirros...blah blah blah

move into fast lane, and the wagon decides to indicate into the lane i just moved into...so i brake, and flash the guy a couple of times, to allow him to pass the wagon infront of him

Nothing happens for a few seconds, and i;m not in his blind spot cos i can see his face in his wing mirror...

I floor it and as i;m half way past him at 75ish mph he drifts into my lane, forcing me onto the grass on the central reservation, with only a few inches between me and the central barries... I blow the horn and just drop a gear and fly past....feckin tosswer puts V's up at me....when it was his fault...i nearly died ffs!!!!

    Shat it big style...

Then on the way back from glasgow 2 weeks after the first incident i'm on the A1 at the metro centre (Newc) stuck in 4.30pm traffic on a Sat...

Traffic is moving at 20mph max!!

I wanna move into next lane, hit the blinker, check mirrors, and blind spot, start moving across, and outta no where a guy on a M/Bike hits my front wing, skids around, and narrowly misses a wagon!!! I pass him...he's on side of road...I stop...check the damage, my wings dented, and i'm missing my front fog blanking plates...he has a dent in his zorst, and nearly lost his foot.

He appologises, i'm not worried about the car at this point, just glad he isn;t dead!!! He was doing 40ish in-between traffic!!!

Was it an air speed indicator?

  6. Not me but my dad, who lives in Italy.

He was over here on business and on his way to Birmingham in a rented Vectra with an Italian colleague. The Italian was driving and my dad was asleep when somewhere on the M40 he was woken by the sound of sirens and found they were being pulled over by a jam sandwich.

Turns out his colleague had screamed down the M40 at 120mph, come up behind a police car dawdling in the fast lane at 70, flashed it out of the way and then continued on at 120. Unsurprisingly the police were furious.

The copper stormed up and demanded to know why they'd been doing 120. Dad's colleague just shrugged and said in heavily accented English "Because thees car does not go any faster".....................

Apparently the copper jaw just fell through the tarmac at that one. But eventually they were allowed to continue with a warning that England had speedlimits unlike Italy and should be obeyed!

A couple of days ago in New Malden, two lanes join to become a short dual carriageway. I join the inside lane from a side road and start accelerating. On my outside is a huge dumper truck. I'm turning off shortly so ease off at 50mph.

The dumper truck overtakes me then just as I'm in his blind spot drifts into my lane without indicating. I have to slam (and I mean slam) on the anchors to avoid hitting the foot high curb inside me.

The ffing annoying thing is that HE had overtaken ME and therefore must have seen me. Also, there was no need for him to change lane as the dual carriageway becomes single two hundred yards later!

Got the c**t back though. Just as the road narrows to single carriageway, with double white lines in the middle, I overtook him and "engaged ABS". You should have seen this thing swerve all over the place - the noise those brakes make when they lock is like thunder!

I then u-turned at about 5mph giving him the finger.

Small price he paid I think given that he would have killed me moments earlier.

Well, not so much a near miss as a relief. Driving home from work at about 8.30am on a Sunday morning about 5 years ago, on a deserted stretch of dualler I decides to see how fast my 1.3 Golf Ryder can go. Come to a nice long, downhill stretch about a mile long. By the time I got to the bottom my speedo was reading 110, when I sees the blue lights in the mirror. Thought I was well f**ked. The copper pulls me into the car and shows me the readout from the gun - 97mph. Offers me the 40 fine and 3 points which I take without question.

As for scary moments - driving from Aberdeen to Inverness on Friday and some chump in a Mondeo starts to overtake a long line of traffic, of which I was the second car. As we are approaching a bend traffic come round the corner towards him, and it was obvious that they were gonna hit head on if he doesn't get in, so I jam on the anchors to let him in infront of me just in time. Was seriously crapping it [:s]

As i always speed on motorway and do up to 1000 miles a wk i had to many near misses to write em but i cant actually belive how many of you lot are speeding in built up areas and are proud of it! Fuc*ing wrong! And for those of you saying people who get knocked down/run over are the ones that should apologise, u need to get a life and probably drive xr2-s or novas! How about kids, old people with bad eye sight/hearing and so on?

Same as some of the others really. Doing about 130 on M1 at about 4am never seen copper then his lights came on and i slammed the anchors on and he nearly hit me. Average speed was 99.7 mph on his video. Yes offcer i'll take 3 points and 60 fine

I have been doing track days recently, after a little persuaion and a LOT of work i managed to persuade my m8 with an rs turbo (i think i'm gonna b sick when i say this) escort.............to come along 1 day and give it some helmet, it was a nice easy track day with good visibility and little chance of rain, after about an hour of tearing round he needed fuel so we drove the 3 some odd miles to the local petrol station and filled up, on the way back i think he left his brain in his crash helmet as we came upto a very tight left hand bend with chevrons on the far side of the bend, as we approached i assumed he was going to break.....and he didnt we went halfway round the corner on our own side of the road and ended up exiting about halfway over the white line..... [:s]the oncoming peugeot and the nova did extremely well at getting out of the way, as if they hadnt i almost certainly wouldnt be sat here writing about this now, needless to say i was f*&king furious at him for driving like a ........... (insert own swear word here )

the moral of this story is to drive responsibly i guess

although i did recently get pulled over doing 127 at 6am in the morning on the A21 , Mr plod was very kind and just berated me for a while on the dangers of high speed...........thankyou mr plod and no i wont do it again, well not until the roads are clear anyway ;)
