49lbft what thread size were they Tony? I have one had an cap head bolt head fly off, that was an aluminium bolt and I think the cap hex had been machined to deep leaving hardly any meat.

    Hi Tony,

The bolts had just worked themselves loose. My first thought was that they had sheared but after inspecting them the threads in the lugs on the caliper are clear and undamaged. They were tight as checked them quite a few times while bleeding the brakes but as the lugs are alloy I didnt want to over torque them.

The caliper has some damage but really only cosmetic. The pads also have some damage where the disc was rubbing while it was jammed between the wheel and outside edge of disc but I think I will re-use all of them as they do very little braking as pretty much all the bias is to the front anyway and the pads have not really any significant wear.

As others have done before, I've just read through this whole thread over the last few days. I genuinely don't know how to comment on such an epic thread.

Awesome car, awesome build, great photos & vids! Will be keeping an eye on this

Ali, has been last seen hooning around on track in his E46 M3.
Have not seen the MK1 in a while myself.

Have been busy with M3 this year but hope to be out in the MK1 next year.

Lots of small changes and it should be into approx. 790 kg ball park once finished. I want to put down a lot more rubber also... as a result it is much wider and track width is also modified...

Time is certainly and issue for many of us these days.
Good to see you still got plans for it. I miss the videos of it hooning around!

    SLS (Sept 17).jpg

The car was 'finished' about a month ago and now completed the last two events of the year and has secured 2nd place in the class A championship for SLS.

Some minor issues to address over winter but looking forward to being back out in it next year.

Using flywheel power and weight excl driver, the car is now at 507 bhp/ton!

Posted pic just as a test as heard the forum now supports the pics. Will upload some detailed pics of the build over winter

Best lap so far is a 55.5 sec lap, which puts it 3 secs behind front running BTCC laps. Not bad for a 1981 hatchback, built in a single garage and running road legal 245/40/15 tyres...
