Have the stub axles and brakes all been fitted to the wrong sides rahter than beam upside down? As that would mean the brake bias valve wouldnt fit etc.
the stub axles only go on one way the pitch on the two sets of holes is diffrent so it must be the beam like that wheels look nice on a mk2
yeah your right, should be at the top. The axle's weren't put on wrong, so beam must be upside down. Will have to do go through it all again then - brilliant!!!
yeah was a good spot. we now know the easy way to get the beam on anyway so only got to do 4 bolts and swap it round..... wont take 5 minutes trying to convince myself here!!! hah a. Oh well live and learn. anything to use our new socket set huh
a little pi$$ed off with ourselves having spent about 4 hours getting the rear beam on sunday, I cancelled monday night golf and we set to work. Having a better idea of what to do, plus lizard coming up with an ingenious idea of using widow makers to manouver the beam so the holes lined up we were back in the right way up!!! applied out clubgti stickers as a well done to ourselves lol and this is what is left..... was supposed to be picked up today but they never came. may come home 2moro to find it gone [:^(]
Looks like you're up to your eyeballs in Monday night Golf tbh Good sh*t - made short work of the old mk3 Edit: Wheels don't look half bad either..
Its coming on so fast since i last see it mate. Its looking well good and a Great thread there too mate I love the wheels, they suit the car 100% Hows everything coming on with the engine change?
^^^ sorting the chassis atm. Spending the evenings this week polybushing the mk3 subframe, booked friday off to get a long weekend at it.... once we have the wiring and steering column and brakes sorted then we will think about the engine, probably about 3 weeks off that yet. cheers for the comments
YEY!!! we took today off work to crack on - didn't go out last night which meant we actually got stuff done!!! We already had the subframe out, but we split the rack, took the wishbones and anti-roll bar out and poly'd it all up. Then we couldn't get the wishbones or bar back in for love nor money. Rather than spend ages swearing at it, we took the decision to take it to a garage and get them to do it. Cost us 20, but the guy was sweating and swearing over it using some meaty tools that we didn't have and we were happy it saved us time. I redid the calipers properly, used a wire brush drill attatchment to get the rust and paint off and then painted them chav red. forgot the take a picture off the subrame and steering rack all painted with poly's, looked really smart but was cracking on and forgot. You can see a poly here though!!! lol rally design, poly race one's Was getting dark by the time we finsihed, but here she is, full wide track, 288 brakes (not bled yet) 5 stud with bbs's wheels on next up tommorow is to get the mk2 dash off, peddle box and column out and then wiring looms in.... still haven't found a local passat peddle box (anyone know of a passat lurking in a scrappy??) so may have to order one from a liverpool breakers but they want 60 brakes and discs look good behind the wheels I think
roger. Trying to find one is proving hard. We both spent two hours on the phone, with bt phonebook online typing in different area's and ringing them all. No one has one [:^(]
