Are there any custom or uprated crank shafts out there to get more RPM been looking into it and was told the max on the standard will be no more than 8250rpm

I run a standard, factory ballance only, 1800 crank to 9k regularly with no issues, and know of a few 2ltrs running mid to high 8k's without a problem too.

  4. You use the factory balancing for 9k??? [:s]:o

yep - my 16v has a factory forged 92.8 crank and regularly goes to 8.5K, with the odd foray to 8.7K, and its been fine - balanced over factory tolerances though

  6. Rob,you rebalanced the crank.Mr hillclimber uses the factory balance :o

he's on a 86.4mm crank though so it will naturally rev a bit more than the 92.8mm - I thought they were fairly well balanced?

mine will rev for england - very happy to bounce off the limiter

  8. Yes sure can rev more easily than the 92.8mm crank but I wouldn't risk my 5k engine without balancing and that's why i'm still using the 7200 cut out limit. What did you pay for 9k balancing internals?

dont know specifically - was done as part of the total engine build by a very good engine builder - not cheap, but very very good

  10. I was thinking about getting my internals balanced but it seems that is very expensive. We will see at a later stage.I have some other things on top of my list now

I have a quote from last week to balance my new badgerwagen motor components, of 260+vat

    from www.vibrationfree.co.uk

not sure this is a good idea bill - my man tells me that he balances items individually as if you change the clutch for eg, it can throw the balance out on the rest

  13. Ohh thanks for the quote Bill. That's not expensive for such a job.So are you reving more than stock your 1.8t? I assume that the internals are not balanced right now?

  14. I'm aware on this also but you can't have everything perfect

Indeed.... never had a problem in 7 years. It would happly spin past that, I have to keep an eye on the rev counter as I dont use a rev limiter.

Mines made up out of old scrap bits... a straightened conrod (H section admittidly) and even a straightened valve (dont try this at home folks!). I'm pulling it apart soon so will see how its faired... still only lost 10hp after all the abuse its had.

Balancing is a nice luxury, but over rated.

  18. 7 years? wow.that is great.straightened conrod and valve?

yes i know that is over rated but i wouldn't risk my 5k engine for not paying another 300GBP.9k is almost 2k more than stock mate.It would be nice to post the condition of the engine after you pull it apart.keep revving [:D]

mine is balanced now (or was before dropped valve killed it off finally)
    Mine revs to 9000rpm

I believe this is what is done here also.
any prospective change of clutch *could* alter the balance following that line of thought.

I know I have not rebalanced a clutch I have ever fitted onto this engine.. and would expect the manufacturer to have done this (to std specs anyhow)
