    piece of mind for me..
600+bhp and 9000rpms makes me want to have tried my best during the build.. far to much invested to scrimp on balancing whilst its all in component form

luck is a factor houston

Out of interest Bill, did you have the out of balance measured before and after?

If not, if you are going to get some stuff done, be good to know the figures?

    I will be indeed...

    300 quid for ballancing!?

Indeed... on an engine like yours I'd do the same.... but us 8v atmo boys only have a 3rd of your power!

Do you need to rev yours so high Bill... where's peak power?

peak power and still climbing was >8500rpm so I stopped it at 9k

Wot to ballance crank/clutch/flywheel/front pulley, and pistons/rods?

My machinist does the spinny bits for about 80 quid from memory, and around the same or less for the pistons/rods.... though custom steel rods dont normally need doing, nore do decent forged pistons.

Do you think a factory forged crank is going to break below 10krpm? Or is it the imbalance effecting shell life/bearing loads your worried about?

  11. I didn't know prices for balancing mate but when Bill said about 300 pounds i thought that was a fair amount if i spent 5k on my engine..?? It seemed fair. But now you are changing things :) who is your machinist? [:D]

  12. To be honest i don't know Brian..Can you shed some light on this? explain a little further? Yes, is the imbalance thing that i'm worried about..[:s]

GT35R turbo remember.. and high flowing largeport head, full-race manifold, SEM intake with 80mm throttle etc etc

He's an ex Hart engineer (as in Brian Hart.... Hart hillclimb engines, F1, Ford works rally engine builder in the 70's...) and his machining is... quite anal!

    I'll ask him next week.

What sort of rpm is the engine making power at?

  16. Cheers mr hillclimber. For now the engine revs in stock rev range with cut out at 7200rpms but i'm using mild camshafts so that i can get its power out with stock rev range.I want to balance my internals for 9k and go for much more aggressive camshafts like 296 so that i can get more power out of it.I can handle these durations due to my compression ratio

    And the c.r is.....

If your only going to turn 9k tops, save your cash and run the std crank. You wont need to run past those revs with those cams anyway.

You talked to your man and said that? to keep the standard crank and without balancing anything?

    cheers
