Had the day to myself so decided to push on with the project and see what I could progress - Got the Mk2 dash out and found it in worse condition than I thought due to sun cracking top plastic. Fortunately I kept a mint dash out of a 16v I broke, just for this occasion Pedal box ready to extract Wiring mostly unplugged and removed Dash looking sorry - and pile of spaghetti... Pedal box out Octavia dash removed although all critical wiring left intact for now. I want to be able to test and run this car right up until the last minute before the engine gets pulled. I tried the Octavia pedal box in the location where the golf's fits and it's clear the Octavia unit would fit exactly had it not been too tall. The crafty VAG group have not really changed *that* many basic concepts if you look under the skin of these cars. The brake servo hole and bolt PCD are same - albeit two fixing bolts these days, not the four. I'm going to have to use a Mk2 pedal box and adapt it to fit the Octavia brake pedal - Luckily they haven't changed the relative pivot point all these years, either! The throttle pedal (no pedantic splitting hairs please - I know it's not a throttle! ) - will be electronic as per the Octavia. However, I don't want to mount it on the floor - which means *not* using the stock Octy pedal. I have a 2010 Touareg pedal which mounts from above - I will make an adapter loom and try it to make sure it's going to give required same signal to the ECU. If so, I will just need to hope there's space for it and then make a bracket.
I had forgotten about your citigolf, looks great. Thanks for showing and I'll look forward to the progress on your mk2
Good progress, my mate used a mk4 r32 pedal on his mk2 to mk5 r32 swap because he didn't want itt in the floor.
Steve- the end result will depend on how happy the transmission and engine controllers are, to be without abs. I will leave the abs wiring in the loom just in case. May need to find alternative abs sensors maybe mk3 will physically work....need to investigate further...
Looks amazing gonna be watching this one J. What's the deal with driveshafts? A guy from edition made mine for the 02M. The subframe needed modifying to clear the 108mm CVJs. Sam
Sam, I've got the name of a good guy in Coventry who can apparently make anything ...... I'll have to cross the subframe mods when I get to that stage.
Not much progress.... Bought some mk4 golf front abs sensors to test with the octy abs pump....fingers crossed. Bagged a mk3 golf fuel tank. Bagged a stock mk2 pedal box. Give me something to do at the weekend!
Rear Polo hubs and stub axles with ABS sensors bagged. That's two benefits for the price of one! These are off Polo Mk3(?) 6N2 GTi with rear discs. Done a bit more trial and error with the brake pedal box and come to the conclusion that I am going to have to reuse the Mk2 brake pedal and adapt the Octavia brake servo shaft - cut off the ball and fit the end off the Mk2 servo. The Octavia pedal in fact is too short and the fulcrum point for the brake servo is not quite correctly located if using the Mk2 pedal box. On the topic of the throttle pedal - the touareg one doesn't work properly with the Octavia ECU. After having a good look on ELSA - it looks like there are many different variants - some petrol and different to derv ones and manual / auto also might be different. Going to take a bit more research yet!
If the octavia servo is anything like a mk4 golf one do the same as me. I chopped the ball off, threaded it with a die and used the B4/Corrado/mk2 clip fitting onto it then. Nice easy fix.
