cheers fellas it looked like it was a cross between the wire from the sender and the cold start valve. when i connect the cold start valve it wont tick over when i disconnect it it will start fine but it will idle at about 3k then
Found the problem with mine, the wires have broken off to the WUR in the loom, no wonder it didn't work..
Just hope I can find the loom from my old car in the shed, and it's got a decent WUR multi plug on it...
no you get random bits of wire with the ends already crimped on....you can solder em on and use your plug or i think they do the plugs too
Get them here aswell - http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/VWPweb2000/connectors/connectors.html
update ive have changed all the senders and the thermotime switch but the car will only start and idle at 3k if i unplug the csv what else could it be ? also since changing the senders i have now got a flahsing water light on the dash which wires go where on the side of the head?
Top up the water and that will stop the flashing light, did you lose any when you changed the senders? In theory it shouldn't matter where the wires go as they're all on the same value senders and all in the same water, but I remember Vince swapping mine around the first time I went there.. If you imagine the three senders are in a triangle 'up side down' looking at the side of the head Top left green/brown or is it green /red, anyway.. it's got green on it. top right blue / white bottom yellow/red (temp gauge) Check and re terminate all the earths including those on the head near the dissy.
i dont think any of those 3 senders would make it run fast so it will sit at 3k all day long? or does it slow up when warm? id suggest you pull the cold start to check thats not going all day long, check the throttle butterflys open and shut nicely , and that the plate above the airbox is seated at the right height and not binding
another update it looks like the reason the light is flashing is because the gsf sender had snapped cheap parts i had the wires in a differnt order to you gary the one that snapped was the top one closest to the front red/yellow wire ive checked the tb and thats moving fine i refitted all the air pipes i will test the csv today and see if that squirts fule out and let you know The car isnt taxed yet so i cant drive it far just in the garage i havent let it idle for more then about 5 mins so im not sure if it quietnes down it so atm it only seems to be when its cold Thanks Criag
the csv squirted but i forgot to test how long for ive changed the warm up reg too silly question if the warmup reg was faulty would i get fule to the csv? also the wires going to the warmup the gree/white and the black one can i just check the green/white goes to the thermotime switch and the black goes to the startermotor i think i think the black wire might of snapped i didnt get any reading when i tried it would this be the reason to my crap start
sorted mine i changed the meetering head and that has given me a nice idle now i also had the warm up reg and cold start wires on the wrong one
