silly question time , but I think my 'rado top mounts are dodgey..so here goes.. but what makes these better than standard mk2 style top mounts? longer lasting , stiffer , or more comfort?

IMO They are better in all the ways you ask, full stop.

You just have to look at how many threads there are asking "How can I change my mk3 top mounts to mk2" to get the picture. ;)

    Yep. ;)

As I can't recall one thread asking that!

With coil overs everything is the same apart from the upper spring perches, right?

Does anyone have pictures how the topmost bits fit, like are there still the mk2 style thin, threaded bushes there that require the VW special key?

Do the pics in the first post not help? Use the search function for mk3 top mounts and you will find several other threads with pics.

The mk3 setup does not use the mk2 style castellated nut. It utilises two thinner hex nuts.

I can only see one nut on these pictures.

I've never worked on a mk3 and now I have mk3 top mounts for my mk2. The coils (KW) are for a mk2 though so I'm not sure which nuts I should be using.. The coils also only have one nut each.

the mk3 top mount/bearing needs the mk3 gti threaded nut to hold them to the shock/coilover. the included normal hex nut goes on last and holds the upper retaining cup to the shock

threaded bush piccy here, its next to the bearing:

Anyone have a picture of a stock upper nut in a mk3 setup?

The OEM upper nut is just a standard type locknut with a sort of washer area, similar to the mk2s. With either a crimped steel or a Nyloc to prevent them coming slack.

  16. Having done this I can confirm that all you info above is correct, when using coilovers anyway. Amazing value, I got my Lemforder mounts with bearing included from GSF for 9 each side plus VAT. The threaded nuts are about 2 each from VW and I used the original mk2 top caps. That's a saving of approx 45 over dealer prices. The previous GSF G60 mounts died after 2k miles!

    Thanks CGTI!

Price gone up on the eBay ones and now FEBI bearings instead of INA. Any difference?

Could someone please tell me what part numbers are required to fit MK3 top mounts to rear coilovers on a MK2?

    Thanks

MK3 rears are the same as MK2s :)

Can someone also share the tightening torques for both of the top mount nuts, please!
