Hi all, I have the chance to fit Brembo rear brakes from a Leon Cupra R on to the rear of a mk2... however I dont want to change to 5 stud... what can I do?? What disks can I get that will have the correct offset and bearings in them that will be 256mm? Or what other ways can I get round it? Cheers Mark
the disk is the only stumbling block in this conversion if you can get 256 4x100 disk for the wheel bearing and stub axle see hear clik with this polo stub axle and hub the Leon Cupra R rear calipper carrier and calipper shoud bolt strait on
i was just thinking this the 4 stud polo disk from the wheel face to the other side of the disk is the same as a 8v disk and 16v 256 disk shoud be the same

Cheers Mark i would say yes i have just tryed a rear polo disk on a front 16v hub and it fits do you have a Leon Cupra R rear disk
Ah I was led to believe that the rears were Brembos too... So If I got the calipers then for a 256 setup, could I not just use them with the standard mk2 disks or is the 256 calliper bigger than the standard mk2/3/4 rear?
no you could not use them with the mk2 disk as the Leon Cupra R rear caliper is wider to for 256 vented disk and the carrier is longer to the golf mk4 18t Anniversary has this set up to
ok just spoted this the 16v 256 is 20mm thick and the seat Leon Cupra R rear disk 256 is 22 mm thick 20 mm is the mim size for the Leon Cupra R disk
I just don't get the point in fitting such large disks on the back. The back brakes are hardly used and, for the money you'll end up spending, you'll not notice any significant difference. You could fit a manual brake bias valve, but you risk the back end locking up if you don't get it absolutely spot on.
I googled MK2 256mm rear brakes and it brought me here, I have a 1990 MK2 CL 1.3 that i''m contemplating doing a 12v vr6 conversion on, id be looking to convert to widetrack at the same time with 5 stud wheels. I have a surplus 256mm x 22mm vented rear brake set up (discs, pads, carriers and calipers) off a MK4 4Motion, is it possible to use this setup on on the MK2? I'd be using 15" wheels so no BBK on the front and I'm slightly concerned about too much of a rear bias, (i'm guessing 288mm will be the biggest I can fit on the front) Thanks in advance
some pics gone but hopefully you get the gist of it https://www.clubgti.com/forums/index.php?threads/256mm-rear-diy-guide.277079/
another way to do it with the 6n disc stub axles and no stacking, but you need normal rear carriers rather than 4 motion: https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?7453873-The-Corrado-g60-VR6-Brake-Bible-The-Rears
Many thanks for the replies, looking at the thread it looks quite involved, the main motivation was cost as I have the brakes surplus , sounds like it would be more cost effective and straightforward to go for the smaller non vented option, thanks again. Coincidentally these popped up on instagram earlier using a larger disc but the calliper is the same https://www.instagram.com/p/B8ufrSfHoCS/?igshid=1q5gfzx30ub4i
yeah you'll have to buy more bits to use them so if cost was the reason cheaper to keep it standard. not like you actually need anythign bigger, even the stock ones need to be pretty much crippled by the bias valve to stop it over-braking at the back
