35 with mixed moterway and town driving.

Would you expect it to be more or less or the same MPG as when using a properly functioning 2E2 carb?

    Hi,

For what it's worth (not much, well buggar all...) my PB engined 8v GTi gets 45 mpg on the motorway, 37 ish around town and when the second choke gets opened, (heavy right foot) I can get it into the low 20s high teens, but that's giving it mega death... (when it's warm)

My driver routinely got 37-45+ mpg with the standard 2e2 carb after I fixed it, was an awesome little runner

Highest I got to was 49.9 cruising in E at 40 mph, it was just about to hit 50 but I had to slow down [:x]

Check the Pierburg FAQ, some things to look out for in there. Have you ever replaced the coolant channel o'ring in the inlet manifold? If not does your carb get boiling hot very quickly? It gets a coolant feed direct from the engine so should be just as hot as the coolant :)

But then my readings were off the MFA, but apparently it is very accurate when installed on a Driver. I am definitely getting much worse economy in my 8v Digifant GTI, and I still havn't figured out why :(

oooooo[8(]thats bad dude! when was the last time you had the weber set up??

that could also be the effects of having gti cam in a non gti maybe??[:s]

So can anyone positively say whether a weber or a 2E2 peircrap uses more fuel?

A webber uses more fuel than a 100% working 2e2, but fixing a 2e2 is very difficult so most people bin their 2e2s and fit a webber :)

Set up 2 months ago. it's always been bad.

I've got a 1.8 Fiesta diesel van for work, I only get 30 mpg from that.

So maybe the cars aren't the problem ;)

yes... as i did!:)2d2k, your engine either needs a tune up, or if that has little effect then a new carb!;)or a little less right foot!

before when i had my poor 2E2 on, i was lucky to get30mpg mixed carefull driving. now that the Weber is on i can easilly get 35mpg, plus i got the advantage of the car 'feeling' alot quicker... less 'bogged down' then with the 2E2. it doesn't turn it into a gti by any means, but generally, to get the power you need simplyrequires less right foot movement!
