I've stripped down a few normal turbo's not variable vane. I'm not too bad with my hands, I should be ok ;)

Taking it off isn't a problem, I'm just hoping the shaft is pretty solid in there and not flopping about.

Well, had the turbo off the b'stard today.
Looks like it's been off recently as it was pretty clean, and the vanes work and move about fine.
There was a little play in the shaft, but nothing to worry about. No damage etc and no cracks in the scrolls either.
So, even with no codes on Vagcom it looks like my friend;y VW specialist will be having a visit.

To go over this again, when you accelerate you can here the turbo spinning up loads, but it's just not producing power until late in th rev range. Pulling off is a major effort!

my 02 a4 130pd needed full throttle to move away from stationary when the egr stuck open. check that and check for boost leaks

i had two 130pds, both with big miles, neither had turbo issues. i dont think the turbo issues actually exist from my experience and fred's tdi site.

EGR has been cleaned out twice and all is working fine. You can hear it opening when you lift off throttle dumping the gases back into the system, so thats working fine.
I've had all the boost pipes off, and all seem to be in good condition, no signs of splits etc and are all secure in their locations :(

you could try fitting a cheap boost gauge to see if you are getting good boost.

is the intercooler in good nic ? the N75valve should be picked up on vag com if it was that i think

    http://www.tdiclub.com/

    they seem quite good too

Prob the most sensible suggestion yet. You could play this guess-athon for a lifetime if you choose.

N75, MAf and MAP have been changed so I've ruled those out.
I just drove it without the EGR valve and the vac pipe to the actuator on the turbo connected and there was absolutly nothing.
I'll have a look again tomorrow and see what I can play around with.

Been on VAg com, no results.

having talked to Euro Cars (Dubisiness) even he can't give me an answer seeing as there's no error codes.

Nope no smoking, but I'll be perfectly honest, when her anniversary started to loose power due to leaking hoses it was making the old wooshing noise without any power. So it's sounds very similar, but I can't find any leaks.

When you put your foot flat on the floor, it takes ages to build up any speed. If you feather it on and off iy'll pull off much better.
I've checked the reading on vagcom for the accelerator pedal and it seems to be working fine.

when my pd130 split a hose, the turbo basically sounded noticably louder for a few days. it gradually got worse, the car got slower and it eventually went into limp mode.

i found the boost leak, this was easily spotted as there was black oil being blown out the split

hope its something as simple as that.

very strange one, if you can log the turbo boost in MVB 11 requested BAR verses actual Bar from MAP sensor that might help

is the N75 valve clicking? could it be none turbo related?
boost should kick in 1.8K buy the sounds of it turbo vanes being kept open- is the vane actulator moving the arm off the vacumm line??

should drag the arm down in at idle /very light revs (suck on vaccum line if turbo still off)
