Are they that far apart.....whats the fuss?? Whats a few lbs here or there? Funily I 'm looking at experimenting my 50mm inlet further Ian
Hello! Kinda new here but might have some usefull experience in with the 42/50mm. I drive a VW Corrado 16V with the CIS-Motronic 9A. Had the engine rebuild at 90k miles (peace of mind) and added some Kent GF1602R (264/258deg) cams, a ported head and 83.5mm pistons, kept the 42mm. Car felt stronger througout the rev range...but was still a little lazy and not rev happy enough for me. Due to lack of time it took me a year before I got a 50mm on it. But a massive change in engine behaviour. Lost loads of torque below 3500rpm...town cruising is no fun at all. Gained a lot above 5000rpm and now feels like a 16V should (IMHO). Whenever driving hard and not paying attention to rev counter...BANG...Rev limiter at 7300rpm. (Made some funny engine vibrarions round 3000rpm disappear too). Car hasn't seen a RR yet so no remap either. Supersprint exhaust system is fitted (incl. cat replacement). Original manifold though. So far for my experiences. Greetz Jef Think the torque loss in an MKII should be less noticeable. Edited by: JefM
i say it again.i had none(to litle, not noticiable) torque loss in low revs.but in high, how man! one of these days,i might make a film with a digital camera.
Woh, what a thread! Never thought we could manage this much discussion of the 16V inlet manifold....well done guys One thing still unanswered for me though... What is the significance of the blue writing? I've had 3 valvers recently, all 90-spec, one had blue writing the other two didn't. As far as I was aware they were all 50mm inlets. So I guess it's irrelevant then As for power/torque gains, I can say for sure that reducing the back pressure on the exhaust side improves the top end power (or free-revving) but reduces low-down torque. I would imagine a similar rule applies for the intake, but I have no experience of messing around the manifolds....yet
scos this not a personal dig but one of my pet hates/rants is the fact that there is no such thing as "exhaust back pressure" I know this seems anal but the term is misleading for people trying to understand exhaust systems and manifolds.
hmmm... We can weld anything at work, and the guys there are amazing... so, what do you rekon to me getting the larger plenum (off a 42????) and welding it to my 50mm....?
