    Vanish?

I forgot it was you that started this thread. It really is a superb example. You mention that there are quite a lot of scratches, have you thought about having the paintwork corrected? Obviously, not the anal extent that the VXR Nurburgring owner went to though.

Vanish as gone to the depths, everyone seen it....how do you mean corrected??? I am gradually buffing them out.. they are generally like swirls but are quite a bit deeper... i think a previous owner used to drop the sponge whilst washing oe something

Certainly looks a lot more original on the bottletops

Bottletops look spot on when they are mint. Good work.

Looks fabulous on the Bottletops, really does.

Now don't take this the wrong way...
Is that the original exhaust backbox design?

Really nice car! I like the bottle tops best  You cant beat an original example like that! It is good fun to play around with cars but the gems like this should be left alone. Fair play.

    No, I don't know - that's why I was asking.
I thought standard Mk2 GTIs had thinner bore, less shiny tailpipes than that, but then again I still haven't got around to buying one.

i am sure it is standard, most other cars are the same, i might have polished up the tailpipes a bit but not a lot...

    Apologies..........................forgot to write a reply!

    My 8v Mk 2 on a 1989 'G'.

It is also standard but no where near as nice as your one!

When purchased, it too had standard steel wheels and I also thought that it looked a little bland. I found these 'Bottle Tops' for 50. They are in good condition but not mint. I keep them very clean and I am amazed at the positive comments that people make about them! Strange really as they are the 'unloved' wheel in most GTi circles!

I have sourced a set BBS RA's and a set of Pirelli P's. Funny thing is, I actually really like the Pirelli's so I might sawp them, but then again, oh I don't know................decisions!

    Jules
