Surely either way the difference is not hugely different between a 3dr and 5dr?! I'm sure the science figures show a variation but I doubt it's enough to drastically change the handling characteristics. No sceince at all to my justification I seem to do just fine with a 5 door as a track car. Even before the cage was fitted.
