Cos the states have an abundance of crossflow 8v heads and they are pretty rare in the uk (i think)

Because the 16v, and 20vt is a far better engine to turbo.

I actually wondered that myself as to why there arent more 8v turbos.
The kits they use for LHD cars over there can easily be used on Right hand drive cars. I have a g60 Turbo using ATP's kit.
For some reason people over this side of the atlantic seem to search for Turbo technics manifolds or try to use Diesel manifolds which, while it can be done, it is much easier to use an ATP manifold and T3 and some forged pistons

what sort of boost are you 8v guys running then? and what sort of power/torque figures are you getting?

I had to pull mine apart again only a few days after I got it running as I cracked a piston ring!! When its back together it will be a 2.1 G60 turbo with forged pistons ported and flowed head, schrick cam, ATP manifold and T3 turbo, Emerald Management, sprinter intercooler and I will be running about 1.2 bar boost though I hope to fit an adjustable boost controller and run a little higher on special occassions :p
But I expect to be getting at least 230 ish bhp. I dont think thats being unrealistic considering G60's with chargers can get that

You'll get that easy. My mates been told his has the potential to put out 300BHP once he sorts the fuelling out. It put out 186BHP running only 0.6bar.

Don't waste money on porting the head, get a cross flow one.

That sounds promising. Afraid its too late on the head. The work is already done, i didnt realise the cross flow heads were so much better at the time. I have already had the car running with the 1.8 bottom end but I didnt have it dynoed. It was only running about 0.6 bar too.
What sort of engine management is your mates car running and what sort of spec is it? I wouldn't mind having closer to 300bhp myself!!!! :p

It's running G60 management, mapped by jabbasport, but still not set up right. it's a T3 hybrid turbo on an ATP manifold, with a grey injectors, a flowed cross flow head, custom plenum and 2.5" magnex exhaust. rallye bottom end and intercooler too.

That sounds like a very nice spec. Its not a 2.0 beetle head is it by any chance. There was a 8v turbo with a cross flow head in the golf mag last month.

im having my g60 mk1 converted to turbo spec by simon cooper at centralvw its going to use one of his rollerbearing turbos he uses on his diesel mk2 and hes building me a stainless manifold should be good for 280bhp and a lot more piece of mind on trackdays than thrashing my supercharger
