Last years Avalanche 1.0 got 9/10 in MBUK, let down by the fork and lack of disk lugs to convert to disk brakes. This year they have added disk lugs to the V-brake model and changed the fork on both.
looks good! depending on what you want from your bike 500 is a good budget to be in, anything less than that and you'll be paying for maintance on parts if you go a bit hardcore in your riding style. my mate did this and was killing wheels in a matter of months and spent in a year on wheels what i had paid for a pair of decent rims. you pays what you get for at the end of the day. TRD there are so many untruths in that big tech post of yours i won't even go there.... Edited by: Jon P
get the DMR over the azonic everytime......steel is way better for hardcore riding than ali. hence why nearly all bmx's are steel. or go down the ali route, start jumping and have this happen......and this was my 700 GT frame
if your going to ride cross country then yes it is. my frame is about 12inch and i have 24 inch wheels.....but i use it for street and dirt. saying that i did the london to brighton on a 14 inch DMR with triple clamps and no gears
[:^(][:^(] I put twin crown forks on my Zaskar when everyone else starting doing it. Then this starting happening to people because the headtubes aren't designed to take big landings and twin crowns.Swapped back to single crowns as soon as I could get the cash together. Love my Zaskar. Makes me feel like Hans Rey.
yup i kinda knew it wasnt 100% safe......lucky for me i walked away with just a scratch! still i looked cool as feck that day at the trails
Triple clamps on a bike that aint designed for them, doh... That Zaskar (?) is a decent frame, being alu didnt have anything to do with that snapping, thats the forks fault. If you're 6ft 3 the dmr is too small, you'll need at least a 15". Identity do a bigger frame, and that azonic should be ok. And a bmx maybe way too small. We need to get a cgti ride sorted?
about six months before that i snapped a set of rockshox single clamps......so i bought triple clamps and the fecking frame snaps six stiches in my eye for that one tho
i personally think the DS1 is a inherantly weak frame, i have seen and heard of many breaking, more so than any other frame. ali frames are ok now, but back in the day they were created for light XC work, not for ripping up the down hills, plus people sticking on huge forks that weren't designed for such bikes. all of these problems have been solved now and if you choose carefully you can get the right package for you without compromising on safety and quality. says the man who has spent near 1500+ on many a bike in the past
and i think some bikes out there have over kill on gussets! next hardtail for me would be a curtis, though i'm swaying to a full sus again.
nice, curtis frames are sweet, works of art with the welding and look great polished... cost a bit too mind... going full sus? just got the Kona Dudu, 4.5" travel on the back, but such a little frame that i can treat it like a jump bike (need the full sus now due to a few injuries along the way)....
