If it's anything like mine, it's a gearbox off chain. :(

I am sure I overtook one of these on the Autobahn a couple of weeks ago. Had great road presence.

I disagree, mk5 gti...4 cyl, with dsg is heavy on the nose. Still handles but you can feel the extra 40kg so another 140 hp and the weight would detract in a fwd golf.

    I'd have a 4wd gti with that engine in!...remapped to 400 hp please:thumbup:

Then the Focus RS will have a real rival.
    Maybe not in price though...

Still FSI though, which means a lot of hassle to get the ECU working. I guess you'd need to use the original car's ECU and all the dash, wiring, etc. If you're going to go to that hassle, why not use the R36 engine instead? R36 + turbo would naturally be a better prospect (3.6 litres vs 2.5 litres).

But then its a modified engine, with custom mapping etc. This is a factory standard engine with high output and turbo. Better option in my opinion.

Both R36 and this engine are FSI.

as long as you use OEM ecu I can't see a problem with the swap. A wiring genius like Andy would be able to sort a loom out

If you ignore all the other issues the OEMs have to counteract and have to make a chioce regarding which engine would have the most potential and can find a means to recalibrate the direct injection to run on forced induction, then a 3.6 turbo VR6 24v would have more potential everytime. Easier said than done though for the aftermarket.

In this climate of fuel economy and "killing the planet slowly" most auto firms are choosing to downsize their powerplants. R32 many be replaced by high output 2.0 Di Turbo (for R20 Golf) and the 2.5 half lambo Di engine, derivative of the engine found in the US Jetta and Rabbit, will be huffed replacing the requirement for the large N/A R36.
