I can hardly pick up the box holding all the wiring bits. new cage is weld in multipoint, welded to a & b pillars, cross braced everywhere... to front turrets etc etc.. F2 spec cage of sorts with some extra tubes and diagonals. prolly looks like a kids climbing frame inside when done.
not cutting any corners then lol you sticking with the same engine setup for now? seems to have got to a reliable stage judging from more recent threads
same engine yes, but different turbo/manifold/wastegate setup, possibly 8 injectors if required. I have another engine planned to build as a spare to swap out at some point as allows. Still shopping for bits for that one, which will be higher spec than the current one.
I take it with the R&D time you have done you can put a same spec engine together cheaper than when you 1st started now Bill.
sorry to jack your thread bill but this is the way im doing my o2a fit http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147522
Good luck Bill!! all the hard work and effort is def.. worth it!:-) did you reach the limit of the standard management or do you just prefer the simpler throttle based map system of the DTA?
yep. and the $$ exchange rate helps too. new spec motor will be solid lifter, have lower girdle, oversize valves... (eventually when I save up for all the bits) will push the Oct2005 motor and cross my fingers. more revs likely.
yea there is. but its not all about power figures when racing. its only 2wd at the end of the day on has to run road tyres. Hoping to have equal spool, if not slightly faster on the new setup. switchable maps, fully mappable with all the DTA extra features to hopefully make it faster.
Brilliant - cheers for putting the thread up Bill. Should be great to see this in progress. Some major effort there so far by the looks Is the engine coming out for the cage install? Just for interest, my ex-VW Cup Mk1 had a 3kg loom in it, which was a cut down OEM loom, no longer running full lights since it didn't need to. I replaced it with an OEM loom for speed/simplicity, which was 8kgs. I'm sure Rob can confirm, but I think the cage will be based on a Seat Super Six rally car cage, from ~ 1997. Just a thought to ask them to update with the straight direct tube from top of A-pillar, direct to bottom of A-pillar, to bring into line with 2003> FIA 253-17D (Blue Book 2007, p187). Also worth a scan of cage diags in Q12 (2007 BB reference). Possibly ask CC to take some digi photos when they're doing the cage, since they take them normally for their own marketing anyway.
a kit car loom will be used to run lights and stuff.. DTA stuff pending time and if I make one or use DTA's version. Dropping off car saturday, so hopefully someone knowledgable I can speak to to confirm a few things. tims ibiza has a CC also. my engine is still in, they said not a problem. Windscreen is out as is all internals as you can see in the pix. I'll mention the straight tube A pillar thing. I was'nt aware of that. cheers mate.
Glad useful. I am sure I've had part of this convo with CC before, and they may baulk at a minor re-design. Distant memories, but if used for racing not rallying, I think that gives them a loophole to do it. Rallying cages IIRC are certified (and so therefore a Seat Super Six cage will be), race requirements not necessarily so (worth an explore). Funny you should mention - the old Jetta was cracking through the floor - found when I stripped it. Just a short length, towards the rear of the rails.
the crack went thru a spot weld once I removed it to very near the bottom of the rail (as pictured) - material is so thin I cant believe it. MaxT on SCN is giving me some good advise on the thread there too.. and Goble on dash options I had'nt seen also..
did you have to trade in the bumper for the wheels? most "done up" cars here in NZ are missing bumpers, but they have shiny wheels and the biggest ICs going
