now ive been working on my car for bout 6months now, the last thing i want is for some flying s*ithouse to pinch the car.

now the car is being fitted with an alarm when its sparyed, and i will fit a big steering lock aswell.

suppose you cant do much better than that but cold the exsperienced car thief still take your car with all this security, pretty sure they could!!

Alarms will put people off, iv lived in a nasty part of cardiff and a nasty part of bristol, my golf has been broken into at both places and the second the alarm has sounded they've run, I had a 306 with no alarm but an imobisliser, this ment they sat in the car ripping all the wireing to shreads until they got bored, also nicked everything that wasnt bolted down!

Alarm, imobiliser and steering/gearstick lock will put them off, plenty of fiesta and escorts to go rob!

yeah just alarm/imobiliser and steering lock should be fine, most car thefts are oppurtunist ones so theyll always go for easiest to rob unless yours is targeted specificaly for its contents or what not.

Or if you realy wanna stop in there tracks have one of these made

Wiring the bodywork up to an electric cattle-fence unit is effective, but illegal.
A chap did this with his Sapphire 4x4 Cosworth in the 90s, and after it threw a curious Security Guard 30 feet across a Car-Park, he had to disconnect it.

As for a visual theft deterrent, a snap-off steering wheel is as good as it gets imo.
I've seen open Elises and Caterhams parked up in the city all day, steering wheel removed.
P'raps they've been urinated into, but hey - not stolen!
Momo do them, there must be others.

They`re made by Snap-off, not Momo, but are Momo fitment.

I`ve got one on my Mk2. Best 70 I`ve spent. They may end up smashing a window or scratching it out of spite, but at least they can`t take it!

I`ve caught a few scrotes having a look round it before, but they are always dumbfounded by the lack of steering wheel!

is it worth getting some armour plates that fit on on the door handles?? i heard you could unlock a mk2 just by drilling a hole below hanlde so you can get to the mechanism.

Get in within 2 seconds with a screwdriver, I tried it in a scrappy after having mine broken into.

Stole the stereo, cd changer and set of door speakers.
Have armour plates fitted now, had a set colour coded on my old car.

Likewise. Mine was broken into through the tailgate by pulling away the back plinth. Alarm went off and they legged it. Car is alarmed, immobilised and has armour plates on the front doors. I'm looking into getting different door pins that sit flush to the door card to stop people bending the door frame or smashing the window (though they could still jump through of course).

Armour plates look sh*t IMO. And they didn`t stop a pair of scrotes nicking my last Golf. They still managed to pull the handle off! [:x] [8(]

I still reckon a removable steering wheel is the biggest deterrent.

...and they'll come back with their own steering wheel specially to nick your car?

doubt that, but i car without a steering wheel has to have something special going on, so id expect theyre more then likely to break in to see what they can find.
