I didn't have to remove the filter as the bulbs were bright enough to shine through it, give it a try before you mess about tring to get the filter out
How hard is it to rig up the gti gauges to my 1.3? And get the rev counter working? surely I would need to buy extra parts to connect the engine to the rev counter?
as long as you get the right model gauge it's just a straight swap for that oversized clock. if your car is pre 1990 then get yourself down to the scrappies and find a set with twin 14 pin connectors. if its post 1990 then get yourself a set with a single 28pin connector on the cluster. then simply swap the speedo out of yours to the new clocks (to keep your mileage) and youve got yourself a set of gti clocks (more-or-less!) hope that helps
nope - correct me if i'm wrong - but the blue flexible pcb on the back of the cluster is universal to all mk2s so all connections are already in place to measure the pulses on your coil - giving your revs. this worked perfectly on my mk2 driver and many others too, so should be fine.
I thought it was just the 1.6/1.8 driver that you do this with (since some of the Drivers had rev counters as standard) But the 1.3 doesn't have the wiring for it? I could be wrong tho!
I did this By removing the green strip, cutting a piece of clear plastic the same size and shape, then sprayed it with red paint. I did this By painting the bulb red. havent got roound to doing window switches etc yet. Edited by: alunwm
Follow the guide in the Haynes manual. You don't need to remove the steering wheel. There are two bulbs at the top that illuminate the dials through a sheet of green plastic. There are two green LED clusters that light up the digital displays. Simon.
I did my heater control and all the switches in my mk2, replaced them with red LED's and removed all the green filters, Then I fitted a blue cold cathode tube in my clocks for a MK4 effect.
My dad has LEDs on his Mk2 switches and they are MUCH brighter then standard lights. When his car is back from Type-K I will post some pics up!
ok, done my dials (changed the coloured strip to blue) and my switches. I done the switches by taking out the green filter and then colouring the clear plastic underneath with a blue glass pen Worked ok, apart from the fact that the bulbs in 2 out of the three swithces dont work.. Whats easier, new switches or new bulbs/LEDs?
