Filled up with this last night, normally use optimax and without a doubt I have noticed a lot of difference. Not going to claim it is any faster, but revs a lot smoother and is quieter as well. I don't bother recording mpg so will not know if economy has improved but I will keep running with this new BP stuff and see how it pans out. Cheers Bri 91 16v
From a diesel point of view, the new diesel Ultimate is supposed to improve fuel economy, engine noise & performance. Haven't tried it yet, but might do in the next few days. Usually use Millers Diesel Power additive to boost the cetane levels from normal diesel & I noticed a difference straight away. If I use this with BP Ultimate, then who knows.....? Edited by: Jon TDI
As I said on the other Ultimate vs Optimax thread.... I filled up with some last week, and noticed that the car was 'pinking' under load... something I don't experience with Optimax.....

stuck 25 in last night - cant say much about it the mo - but will cane the crap out of it at donny next week !!
So rags what youre saying is a turbo, supercharged, or high compression engine that pinks like mad on normal unleaded but not on optimax is all in the owners head? I think not. If the fuel has a higher RON then it is less likely to ignite before it should. Which is made more likely by having a turbo / s.c / high compression - the two cancel each other out.
ps I have to say that my VR6 doesnt seem to care, however my old G60 had a definite difference. Possibly because it was making nearly the same power from 1.1 litres less! I fully expect a VR6 with a turbo would need optimax or something with a high octane rating to run properly without blowing itself up though...
aggressive today! i was just pointing out these 'notable' power differences! using standard superunleaded 98 ron will help you..or using super unleaded 97 ron. i did a whole project/experiment/analysis in a lab with regards octane levels last year...and the combustion of petroleum of different octane levels.... As i say, it wont make your car accelerate faster- that my friend is the 'placebo' part! Edited by: CabrioRags
surely, if the engine is knocking and fuel is igniting before it should, you wont be getting optimum power? equally if the knock sensor is retarding the timing to compensate and stop it from knocking, you wont be getting optimum power? Not agressive, just right
alls I know is.... My car does more MPG on optimax, and doesn't 'pink'.... can't say about whether it's quicker.... not 'noticeably' anyway... but it does run smoother.
Mine feels smother.. thats fact, not fiction. It also hits 5mph quicker at a local point i know very well.. also fact.
yes but read what i said There is no difference between these higher RON fuels. Superunleaded and optimax and even this new stuff will not show any notable differences to you, the driver if you use them!
So why is my engine noticeably smoother on BP ultimate compared to optimax? I have never ran it on regular UL so cannot compare it with that. Cheers Bri Edited by: Bri957
