Caliper doesn’t fit over brakes pads/discs

So I’ve started fitting some components for a brake upgrade. Trouble is the caliper doesn’t fit over the new parts

I have 20mm vented 256mm discs with 16mm brake pads and caliper suitable for 256mm brakes. The caliper arm fits over the disc and the pads slot in nicely but can’t get the caliper on. From what I’ve read this combination of parts should work.

It’s definitely not the piston in the way, any ideas/help. If helpful I can list the part numbers I have?

    Cheers!

Is it like as if the pads are too thick?

Exactly that! I know people have had to take a few mm of the pads but I thought this was for the 20mm pads not 16mm!

I’ve seen some 256mm solid discs which are 11mm thick so not sure if I’m supposed to be using this?

measure the caliper opening. you might have 256mm solid calipers from lower-high spec mk3 :(

Oh balls! That sounds very much like the problem, I’ll measure when home tonight!

    The calipers are 8AN 355 790-341 from AUTODOC (OEM 357 615 123 AC)

ETKA doesnt see that number, but 256mm vented should have 53mm opening. 8AN 355 790-341 seems to point to vented 256mm though, 357 615 123A?

measured last night, pads definitely 16mm and discs 20mm. The only other thing I can think of is if the slide pins aren’t going in far enough but can’t imagine this being the issue!

Not quite the same set up but when I did mine I had the correct pads but still needed to take millimeter or two off to get them to fit.

Just got round to this, the measurements are…
    About 55mm from the piston
    About 60mm without the piston
About 80mm from where the caliper sits against the slide pins

From reading previous threads I’m also certain I have the 256mm carriers too… carrier bolt holes 90mm apart

Ah no, hope it wasn’t too much of pain! Don’t fancy having to do this every time I want to changes pads, not that my car is anywhere near this stage!

Not yet, haven’t had too much spare time this week due to work. I just find it very strange that it doesn’t fit.

I think my options are either to buy thinner solid discs, shave down the pads, shave down the caliper slightly where it bolts to the carrier. None are ideal but I need to do something to make it work!

This sort of thing usually happens to me lol.
I wouldnt mess around shaving anything other than the brakes pads personally I wouldnt want to weaken the structure of any
Metal parts.cant you run pads over some 80 grit paper and take a couple of mm off.
I'm sure I had the choice of different thickness pads before.
