So anybody knows exactly what are differences between those engines, I know that 230 hp engine in Edition 30 is actually engine from new S3 Audi but powered down a bit but what are mechanical differences?

The new S3 motors have different cams, inlet path and turbo.
"230" golf engine just runs a bit more boost.

I've heard that the edition 30 has stronger internals as well. The same as the new S3 engine. So a stage 1 remap and you should see 300bhp and 295lb torque.

In ED30 it's definitely not just some boost, for 30 hp gain factory always goes with other mods because it has to last and they are givin warranty for that so it needs to be well overdimensioned. That s why ED30 can put out 300 bhp with just a remap and with no worries.
No way they will just add boost a little. Remember old 1.8t engines for example and differences between 180 hp version and 224 or 209 in old S3.
What micky1 is saying makes sence they probably secured wth stronger internals also.

Don't know about the Mk5 cars, but the difference between the AUM 150hp golf and AUQ 180hp Golf was just a remap. Identical otherwise.

You're thinking of other 150hp variants of the 20vt, such as AGU and ARZ which have the KO3.

I can assure you the AUM and AUQ are identical apart from a different map. Both DBW, both small port head, both KO3s.

    Micky1 was right.
The 230ps spec engine (BYD) shares the same block and head as the 256ps (BZC) and 265ps S3 unit (BHZ). I am not too sure on the integrated turbo/manilfold if the base turbo is a K04 but with different wheel trims.
The 200 and 185ps variants (AXX, BWA BPY), have from my small reaserch, different head castings, inlet and outlet cams, fuel injectors, and turbocharger (K04 as well but different trim specs).

I'd been informed by my man at Audi when i test drove the new S3, that there dry-sumped also.

That's so unlikely to be the case.

Dry sumped road motors aren't available this side of a 911 (IIRC) and Ferraris etc.

I'd be happier to go with Micky1 as well. The Ed30 engine is a detuned s3 engine which makes well in it's running specs

    when i get a mk5 GTI, I will only be looking for a Ed30
