    just pondering the idea....

seeing that i know where i can get a turbo, downpipe and an oil field as well as an intercooler for less than 50 quid.
Can you realistically get a decent power hike running at normal compression and very low boost?

i am not looking for silly power beacuse, number one i dont want to blow my engine and number 2, dont want anymore than 200 brake through those front wheels without an LSD etc

Is it worthwhile, and possible to use the current block i have or is it not wise?

I dont think you could realistically get near 200 bhp from running that setup.
I dont think it is wise to try to do these conversions on the cheap as they will turn out to be more hassle than they are worth, especially if you are only getting a few bhp more. Just my opinion though :)

It's gotta be worth a try even if it's just to answer that 'what if?' question.

If all fails then you know it doesn't work but at least you know that you've tried it....

...if all that makes any sense.

Well I originally started out with a plan something similar to that. I had a TD manifold, Turbo, Pipework and intercooler, all of which I got for about 30 quid. I planned on fitting this to my 8v with a unichip to deal with fuelling and just run low boost. I was all set to build it into the car when I just decided that while it more than likely would run it was not going to be anything special and would probably end up being apart more times than it was on the road!
So I just decided to do it right once and for all :)

If you've got a engine lying around spare then do it, get it built up, stick it in, run it, if you kill it stick the old lump back in, no harm done

Wouldnt do it with a perfectly good engine already in the car though.

"and an oil field as well as an intercooler for less than 50 quid." aye but with the money from your oil field you'll be ok ;)

you can definitely get a great increase in low end torque with a mild pressure turbo, if intercooled it should be ok if you dont go mad on the boost. Or at least a lot of guys on vortex are doing this with good results, not tried it myself.

or 2 mk4 2.0 headgaskets would help lower the compresion,

the main thing is going to be controlling the fuel and sparks so g60 management is the way to go then mapping at Jabba or Geoff through Stealth. 800gs will soon be able to map stuff too which will be ace

Hey Rags, did you see on the other post you did about 8v turbo's, I was going to do k jet turbo on an 8v, prof knows as I bought some brakes off him and I told him my plans, but my plans have changed slightly, I know how g60 management and a g60 bottom end, so if your interested mail me as I have some schmitt low compression pistons and a spare block if you want to have a play around without worrying about blowing your new block up

BTW, bloke at the breakers I was talking to today has got 335 (proven) at the wheels, on a totaly standard bottom end. ARP head studs and stacked headgaskets are all he runs. And it's been going for 30k miles like that.

Yup, otherwise the stacked headgaskets would be a bit of a pointless exercise......
