right, if you could build a track car and you could go for anything you liked, what engine would you go for? (has to be a VAG engine) stonking VR? Tuned G-Lader? Big power 1.8T? Tuned to the nuts 2.0/1.8 16v? multivalve anything? just wondering if the weight of a VR would take away from it's power in a car that is meant for ultralight one reason only. Also, if you were to build something completely from scratch with a spaceframe, sortof like an Ariel Atom, in terms of engine cooling, something completely new, would you go for air or water cooling? regards Al.
New RS4 V8, probably in the back of an Exige..... I'd die in seconds but it might be worth it. In the real world a 2.0 16v with a decent head and proper injection/managment would be just the ticket in a light mk1 shell. Not so sure about the non-turbo thing, I know its a bugger to balance the car when its coming on boost mid corner but you can get used to it. Edited by: Unknown
Ah, ha. Need any more convincing? Consistently faster than anything bar the Radicals. Personally I will being getting the 16-valve on TBs put back together. More because I own it already and like the noise. But that'll only get you in the top 10, so to speak.
Cripes didnt realise their Mk1 was that much quicker than their mk2. Yes must say id love the Reeves Mk1 or 2 in my fleet, pretty much my inspiration to build my Golfy track car (tho mines just a bit slower!) I do dream tho of a boggo looking Mk2 with full & tweeked RS2 running gear, soooooper doooper
If I had to stay VAG with a track car I'd be getting my inspiration from the Berg cup mk1's Edited by: GVK
Rob Kenworthy He is the chap with the GT2 in Gumball is he not? Reg no 1 CPU or something. What's the story with him, he seems to be absoloutely loaded. Fordo!
Have a look in the 'old school race look' thread in vehicle generral, there's some good links in there.
its gotta be a high revving valver on bodies for me,, although my track car is a lightweight mk1 with a tuned high revving 1600 in it at the mo,, 1600 EG bottom end with 40mm inlet valves & 36mm exhaust valves,, revs to 8k all day long,,,,
