black wire is an ignition live feed, dont think it would make much difference though apart from putting a small drain on the battery.

Been and had a look at the car, the fuel pumps prime now when ignition on lol.

    In Vag-com the immobilliser says

    Authorised Start = 1
    ECU Answers = 1
    Key Condition OK = 1
No. of Matched Keys = N/A

I even tried disconnecting the ring reader to see if it was checking correctly and it came up with

    Authorised Start = 0
    ECU Answers = 1
    Key Condition OK = 0
No. of Matched Keys = N/A

Plus it gave an error code about the ring reader.

I cleared all fault code on the immo and the ecu then tried to start it. It did the 2 second thing again.

Ran a full test on it and this is the result.

    VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N

    Chassis Type: 1H - VW G/J/V Mk3
    Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,25,56

    Address 01 -------------------------------------------------------
    Controller: 037 906 025 R
    Component: SIMOS 4S 2104
    Coding: 00000

    2 Faults Found:
17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
    P1570 - 35-00 - -
17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
    P1570 - 35-00 - -
    Readiness: N/A

    Skipping Address 15-Airbags

    Address 25 -------------------------------------------------------
    Controller: 1H0 953 257 B
    Component: IMMO VWZ3Z0V4318105 V00
    Coding: 09600
    Shop #: WSC 00087
    No fault code found.

    End -------------------------------------------------------

The immo and ecu are talking ok, im really beginning to think it is the ecu, well I just hope so.

Ive still got that spare wire doing nothing on the immo, it grey and black and goes to TV14?!?!?!

fingers crossed for you m8 but it seems too similar to my old mk3,s fault not to be the ecu to be honest.

now your asking! will have to go back down to the car tommorrow.

I was thinking it may need to connect to the immobiliser on another pin to allow the start. Just guessing now and waiting on the other ecu.

shouldnt do the ecu and immob communicate to each other as well as the vac com port via the grey/white wire, the fact you can read from both means the wiring side is ok, but I dont recal having a grey/black wire on my mates 96 ABF immobilisor loom...

    ah, my own diagram
NOW I remember how it works, TV14 is the diagnostics junction box above the fusebox. The ECU diagnostics wire connects direct to the grey/white plug on the imobiliser unit (J...) then the grey wirefrom the imobilisor box runs to TV14. TV14 is where the OBD2 plug connects to, and all the other airbag, abs etc diagnostics wires run. If you dont have it, run it direct to the grey/white wire on the OBD2 plug.

Basically the ECU diagnostics PASS THROUGH the immobilisor box, they dont run parrallellell.

Ive got go try this soon as!!! Makes soooooo much sense!

    Im sooooooooooooooooooo happy!!!!!

It was the wiring but it was like this, grey/white from ecu to immo and vag-com

Its now, grey/white from ecu to grey/white on immo, immo black/grey to vag-com!

Ran a bit rough, got no airbox so stuck a dust mask over it lol, cleaned all the plugs, dizzy and it runs mint now.

Only problem i have next to no clutch! It the self adjusting cable, gonna get a new one.

    Thanks to all who helped!

    Now its time for beer

awesome, glad ya got it going!
ze rev counter no worky because the ECU rev counter signall from the AGG doesnt work with the MK2 clocks, you have 2 choices:
    1. Chop off the plug to the MK3 coil and convert it back to your old MK2 coil+tci setup, run a wire for the rev counter
    2. open up the MK3 coil and connect a wire to a pin inside, run a wire for the rev counter

I prefer option 1 as the MK3 coils are shte, but its your choice :)

Thanks for that mate, think im going get a spare mk3 item and play with that, ive binned the mk2 one it looked well old.

Just done the clutch cable, swapped to manual, works great.

Need to get a mk2 airbox now, or adapter plate to fit a cone filter because the dust mask aint a good idea!
