If playing with the engine I'd be inclined to stay small block.. perhaps a 1.4 16v AFH from a Polo, or the 1.6 16v lump from the 6N2 Polo Gti.

Could stick with the 1100 8v and build an all steel rev-monster with a little turbo to keep some mid range.. decisions decisions..:p

Wow what a beaut, I dont normally get excited about clean stock non gti golf mk1s but thats really amazing, I dont blame you for wanting to mod thou as Id be the same, just keep it simple with things you can swap back.

love that, small block 8v on throttle bodies. you need a highly tuned 1.3L screamer in there!

it's not mega old so i'd get some coilovers on it and gti front brakes, a nice set of old skool BBS E30's etc

    love it

MKI Oettinger 16v. I think it could be had.

KR on carbs or keep the engine that's in it.

    Either that or a K20!!!

Although it is too good to mod. You could always go PPC stylee and put modern engine in an older car to get the best of both worlds. Small block engine as in lupo sport or gti engine. Which is a 1.4 16v(100hp) or 1.6 16v(125hp).

I'd sell up if it were me and either mod a car all out or just keep it as is

Lovely. Leave it alone and you'll have an appreciating piece of history. Change it and you won't.

Hey hey, don't modify it, please! It's too beautiful to be touched!
It would be a crime, honestly!

Put it on eBay and sell it to get something already modified, if you like more performance. Like possle said mk1 GTI with 16v already fitted come up cheap sometimes...

And please, don't chrome it as it was a Harley: it's not!

    agree with that.

cant really 'enjoy' a car like this as the novelty would quickly wear off with that amount of 'power' on tap in this day and age.

put it in a museum, or do as tshirt says ^^

i think you should go for a G60... that would be sick, that 20vturbo is pretty sick too, or keep it old skool and 8 valve and get a 2.0 8v
