    Hi,

Can anyone offer any advice for exhaust system for my caddy running 1.8l 16v kr

I currently have stainless steel manifold and down pipe up to the gear leakage, it is around 60mm diameter. I wanted some advice on where I can get the rest of the system from? I've looked at a couple of miltec ones for a mk1 golf, will that fit? I don't anything to loud just a good tone at higher revs

    Really appreciate any advice.

    Thanks

caddy pretty different at the back but you can use a mk1 mid-pipe. rest will have to be custom

Thats for the reply mate, its got a custom manifold and down pipe to the gear leakage. This at 60mm in diameter after that I've got a reducer and the standard caddy exhaust for the rest. Will this be ok drive ect to get it mot and then to a custom exhaust garage?

    Thanks

Thanks for that info. Can I asked few questions please.

Had a bit of a problem yesterday plugged the headlight switch in to check the lights and turned it on and it instantly fried one of the wires to a point it nearly set on fire. Is this something to do with the resister under bonnet with 2 yellow wires coming out?

Also can't get the coolant to stop flashing i bridged the sensor in the coolant bottle and it stopped for a moment then started flashing again.

    Thanks

yep could be the dimdip, make sure its unplugged and thrown in nearest bin. check you havent plugged the dimdip plug to the fog light plug as thast'll also fry your loom. you can disconnect the 2 yellow wires near the fusebox as well to reduce the chances

pull the 42/43 relay out from the holder above fusebox to fully disable the low coolant warning

    Hi John,

    Can you help me.

After find oil leaking out of the exhaust manifold.
I stripped it all down measured the bores tried 0.5 over sized piston rings and they wouldn't fit. So I carried on with standard ones. I offered one into to bore and checked there wasn't a gap where the piston ring meets. So I carried on with the standard ones rebuilt it ran it up, everything seemed OK. Ran it up tonight and I have the same issue not sure whats going on. Could it be something simple like the oil being to thin for the engine? I'm clutching at straws at the moment. Any ideas?? I cant take it apart again lol.

Or is it more likely to be stem valve seals?

    Thanks for your help.

could be the valve stem seals, either worn or the valve guides are knackered allowing valve to wiggle around

Ok thanks mate, I guess the only way of proving it is when I take it apart?

    Thanks

yeah dont think you could easily see otherwise. the ports will be oily but that could also be down to control rings like you thought. quickest way I guess just swap another head on an d see if the problem persists

Ok thanks John, are the guides a common problem or can I put new seals in?

    Thanks

not all that common, but they can fail. they are replaceable if need be generally a job for an engineering shop but if you know the procedure and have all the tools can be done DIY

Hi mate, I hope you are well.

Finally got everything back together just tuning it up.

When I'm setting the ignition timing with a timing strobe.

When its up to temperature and I've attached the strobe, do I need to disconnect the vacum pipes to the ecu etc?

    Many thanks
    Ian

you probably need to add an ignition live to it, most mk1/2 dont have one. got a pic of the rear of the radio, it'll possibly have a little wiring diagram on it

Yes I think its either constant live or the ignition.

    Thanks
