they are right, you have taken advantage... its not the right thing to do... even if you gave her 500 for it.. 50 is as bad as stealing it from her

i hope you crash it and have to spend over 4k getting it fixed - get what you deserve

she would have got more for scrapping it!!

if your happy with your move then fine, but i wouldnt go on forums braggin about it.
if a soliciter had treated her like that, he'd be struck off work, it has happened.

i just find it hard to congratulate you on such an amazing find, when the reality is that old biddy has been well and truly fleeced, she obviously had nobody to turn to for advice at a hard time and YOU took advantage.

Did you get a chance to go in the house and look under her matress while you were there. If you had been honest surely you would have told her its worth a few hundred and maybe bagged a bargain at 300. I am a firefighter and we visit a lot of elderly, and sometimes have to run from the house with them wanting to give us gifts of thanks (Money LOL). It is easy to get one over oon the elderly, who havent got a clue. Just my thought mind, enjoy your car.

welll... she was happy with it....she was going to get the scrap man to come collect the car to scrap it. so why would i pay more? she said i could take it for free. . i gave her a nice unfolded 50 note. .
lolol GoRILLY its not nice to wish death apon me.. you hope i crash????
tbh i didnt really know what they were worth untill i purchaced it and people here tellin me.
    i havent taken advantage? have i ?
llllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooolllllll and no i didnt go into her house to look under her matress. i dont think she was poor, her house seeemed nice with lots of flowers outside. she prob wanted some1 else to have fun with the car. which obviously if YOUr a nice person you would do something like that.

i recks its easy for others to GENUINELY feel v w colourconcept ripped this biddy off, and for them to say 'if i was in that position, i'd....', because people hardly get this kinda opportunity!! i'm not saying all of those would decline to only pay 50 (or free), and genuinely offer LOADS MORE money, but the only way you really find out is if your put in that situation!!! i personally think alot more people would've done EXACTLY as vw col.cnpt. would've done!!! some people (especially alot of old people) dont give a toss about money value, its all about the memories. the old lady obviously knew the car weren't a scrapper, but probably didn't want it because it held too much memories. if it was a close relly of mine, i'd probably have kept it, restored it and kept it as a kinda shrine to remember him/her. thats just me though, everyones different!!

I agree with what someone said.

If you wernt in the situation you dont know what you would have done.

The guys saved it from the scrap yard so the guys alright in my books.

Good luck with it. Come join edition38.com if you havent already ;)

fair play i reckon, you saved a classic from getting crushed and at the end of the day any of you lot would done the same even if you wont admit it, its not like you conned her out of it or anything you didnt even seem to know what it was worth yourself!

you aint done nothing wrong in my eyes, its not likely she could of put it on ebay or any kind of online advertising or even specialist advertising so you probebly have saved it from some filthy scrapy.

Id stick up photos of it dirty, maybe control the jealousy issues going on in this thread!
