yea you need to get the shaft out to get the hall sender out, theres 3 screws on the early dizzy and on late dizzy 2 screws for the sender
that one from ecp should have the hall sender in at that price, but not sure on the quality of the product

so long as it gets her up and running I'm happy. A sender is ~40

can always sell mine for someone to refurb...

garth the euro car parts one is the same spec as the one fitted to my 16v only mine was from GFS
it only lasted two years and the seal went hard and leaked as the seals are not oem spec
plus you can get one cheaper if you shop around
    have seen them for 50

just seen some nob on ebay selling a seal + instuctions for 9
bet the instructions are ripped off hear

i should do a full kit with seal washer's and 'o'ring and under cut him

Can anyone advise on the exact seals I require from Simply Bearings? There are two in the size rubjonny mentions.

    http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p2...with+Garter+Spring+R21+/+SC/product_info.html

    or

    http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p2...with+Garter+Spring+R23+/+TC/product_info.html

I don't seem to have a leak at all but may as well replace them while I'm doing the hall sender as it's cheaper than buying a new complete dizzy.

Should the dizzy spin freely when it's off or does it rely on engine force? As I can only seem to spin one turn by hand?

Also where is the best place for the hall sender?

    Thanks

both will do the job but the second is the one to use as it has the twin seal like the oem one

i used a single lip seal on my dizzy and john use the twin lip seal both work

The more I think about it I am considering just going to buy a complete unit as I need a hall sender, rotor arm, cap and dust cap also which soon adds up to around 60

Where is the best place to get one complete then?

any thoughts on a new complete unit? 83.50 delivered seems fair from ECP, can always change the seal at a later date.

It is the hall sender, rotor arm, cap, dust cap that seem to add up.

GSF the hall sender is 38.50, cap is 7, rotor arm is 4.25 + VAT = 58.45

    Plus the seal = 61

I'd also need to get a dust cover as mine didn't have one?

I'll check with GSF to see what their exchange dizzy comes with...

you would get a dust cover in a scrap yard and it dose not need to be from a 16v just about any cover from a vw or bosch distributor one will fit some fords too

when i did my distributor i never factored in the cost of cap and arm as they are consumables
you could end up needing new ones in a few months

I got the complete dizzy from ECP for 63 delivered! (mate got me trade discount and had it delivered same day to his garage)

Will fit tomorrow and hopefully have her up and running again.

all fitted, fired up first time, timing set. Winner

It runs so much better than before it failed so it must have been on it's way out for ages! Idles nicely now.

    Thanks all

    2 questions about these pics
    1) is that the correct way the gear goes,i forgot to mark it [:$]
    2) is that black plastic cover that holds the wires down still available to buy

note orientation of the punch mark in relation to the gear, plus if you're not sure mock it up without the pin and try to fit it to the car ;)

plastic cover is part of the hall sensor assembly, its not a seperate part
