1990, that set up will work yes. I think I'm going to relocate my amp to somewhere that it won't be affected by things in the car like passengers. I need to build something that protects it.
So if I get the amp and a lead what else do I need? What if I decided I wanted 6 speakers instead of 2? Would I need a bigger amp?
Ok you need to power the amp, the speakers obviously has to plug into it somehow. You need a switch to turn it on, I have it wired into my fan switched live cable so the ignition controls the on and off. You can obviously do it like Jolfa if you please. You need to earth the amp. I suggest that depends where you put it, I have mind in the front of the car so I use the earthing point under the gear gaitor. If you wanted 6 speakers you'd need to obviously make the changes depending on quality of sound you want. I have 4 speakers through 4 channels. If you want anymore help just PM me dude. I seem to have got the hang of the stereo thing pretty quickly :-D
That looks easier, basically the power lead needs to run into something that provides constant live off the battery. I ran a cable into my dash, through the speedo cable hole and out to the battery for that.
I want to do this with my mom's Civic because I want to upgrade the sound without removing the period 80's radio. Question is how can I do it so that the radio is still functional? If I got a bunch of speakers that had two pairs of terminals and hooked both the head unit and amp up to them would that be ok? eg speakers like this:
I've got mine working now with my 11.85 hong kong amp. It sounds good enough for me, i'm pretty impressed. This is how i've tested it so far. Only problem is if I wanted to charge the ipod as well i'd need a second wire into the usb socket on the amp but I dont want loads of wires everywhere. I'll see how long the ipod will last fully charged.
I've been trying to find one myself, Maplin is a good bet I suppose. I'm trying to get one that connects from a headphone jack or something. I've currently got the headphone jack poking out of a dash blank and the ipod sitting on it. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4222345 This is the most information I've seen on it. My iPod touch sits the same way. I'll snap a picture tomorrow when I'm in the car.
I bet the guy with the honda full of speakers would hate my piddly set up almost as much as I hate his!!! Theres a lead on e-bay for 2.98 delivered. This is the only black one I can find at 8.60 from the USA http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-RCA-IPOD-VI...6:2|39:1|72:1690|240:1318|301:0|293:15|294:50
Well I've gone to another level on this now. Got a small docking station which I've fitted into an old ashtray. It takes the 3.5mm headphone jack and charges aswell thanks to USB or a 12v DC so I'll be setting it up as soon as I can get a volume controller. If someone works in a Maplin swipe me a headphone volume controller. At the moment when you plug it in... well... you don't want to hear the volume...
Just to resurrect this, i've ordered the same amp as 1990 has, if i use a ipod>RCA rather than a 3.5mm jack>RCA the sound quality should technically be a bit better but will i notice? And will i be able to control the volume on the ipod using either of these? Cheers, James
