Got home from work today to find those lovely yellow/orange stickers in my windows and a WHEEL clamp through my erm... towing eye.

Why? Because it was untaxed while I broke it. :(

Anyway... I phoned the credit card hotline to pay it and they told me that, if I intended on scrapping it, I could just not pay it, let the DVLA take it away in seven days and I would pay... nothing.

I might have to pay back tax (is this pro rata?) for the period it was untaxed (three weeks).

    Can anybody clarify?

    *****

Apparently they come after 24 hours, not a week! My girlfriend just phoned me saying there's a crane outside by my car so ran downstairs and handed the phone to them.

They were actually pretty reasonable. He said it was booked in to be collected at 3 but wouldn't take it now because my tools etc were in the back. Every tool I owned actually...

So they're coming back in the morning. They've taken the clamp off too. :)

A bit annoying because I haven't got time to remove the subframe, wishbones, loom and have a good luck at what else is left, but oh well. Touch justice, eh? [:s]

Was the car on the road or on a private driveway?

Strip the parts you want off it, ring the local scrap yard, get them to lift the car and the clamp with a hiab

I have. The only parts left are the subframe, steering rack and wishbones.

On the road outside the house is the ticket baby!
Broke the law, and by now, you should have known better! lol
The bas tards will get you one way or another!

Tell them you sent off the yellow part for scrapping, but it still shouldn't have been on the road. Bummer.

Cut the clamp off, scrap it, tell them the gypos must have made off with the whole lot, you have no idea where it went...

Wheel clamp through the towing eye?

Surely angle grind the metal area around the towing eye, leave that bit on the road still joined to the clamp, and then strip the rest, lose the shell and sit back and watch your eBay auctions.

    Smugly [:^:]

    They'd never expect that.

can't believe that clamped the towing eye

seriously..... how is that going to stop any one?

    has it not got wheels?

get the rest of it broke and get it removed before they come back.

Just had a wave of panic when I found out the number I phoned last night was actually a company called NCP who are the people that do the clamping, removing etc.

Anyway, phoned the DVLA themselves and they said to just leave it. If they tow it and destroy it I won't be charged the release fee or storage fee and I will have to pay the DVLA for the 3 weeks I didn't pay tax and a small admin fee.

    It's gone

Golf has gone. They surprised me by turning up mid power steering rack removal. They said they were going to tell me that they'll come back Monday but one of their boy's saw them in the area, the boy who clamped me, so they couldn't return empty handed.

Then they shattered my rear window all over the road. He asked for a broom.

    He broke my broom.

    Golf has gone. [:s]
